In 2025, Business Insider reported that job seekers now have only a 0.4% chance of actually getting a job when they submit a resume.
A survey by SideHustles.com in early 2026 found that more than half of workers’ mental health has been harmed as a result of the current job market.
How far would you be willing to go to land an interview? Would you be willing to pay someone to help you find a job?
Believe it or not, many job seekers are doing just that.
Unlike when companies contract recruiters to help them hire new employees, job seekers pay “reverse recruiters” to apply for jobs on their behalf. While reverse recruiting isn’t a new phenomenon, it’s become increasingly popular over the past year as job seekers navigate what many are calling a “broken” market.
But is it really worth shelling out cash just to land a job, or are reverse recruiters taking advantage of desperate job seekers?
