Purpose
The University Writing Center is hiring part-time writing consultants for the 2025-2026 academic year. We seek applicants from every graduate discipline. Writing consultants conduct 45-minute sessions with students to help them become stronger writers. Depending on qualifications, consultants may be asked to work with undergraduate students, graduate students, or both. They will deliver presentations in classrooms across the University; create handouts and other materials to support student learning; and complete other relevant duties as assigned.
Employment is contingent upon being registered as a UT Austin graduate student for at least 9 hours per semester. Employees are required to attend orientation in August and ongoing training events throughout the academic year.
Responsibilities
- Conducting 45-minute sessions with students to help them become stronger writers
- Delivering presentations in classrooms across the University
- Creating handouts and other materials to support student learning
- Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Excellent written and oral communication skills, adequate progress toward degree (confirmed by advisor or other faculty member).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous employment in a writing center, writing studio, tutoring center, TA or AI position, or equivalent. Experience working with various student populations. Experience in public speaking.

Salary Range
$30.50 - $34.00 an hour
