Job Description:
Under the direction of the Community Services Supervisor, the Senior Transportation Specialist receives the intake calls for transportation services, schedules the routes, assists with training, and subs for drivers of the City’s 5-passenger van and provides responsible, safe transport for senior citizens and the physically disabled. The position may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and other duties as assigned. Maximum of 950 hours per fiscal year.
The typical duties of this position include:
- Managing large amounts of inbound and outbound calls in a timely manner;
- Identifying customers’ needs, clarifying information, researching every issue and providing solutions;
- Assist with supervising part-time transportation staff including assigning duties;
- Create staff schedules and daily routes to provide to drivers;
- Subs, when needed, to transport (drive) senior citizens and physically disabled to and from appointments;
- Keep daily records and logs attendance, mileage, and route information;
- Check-in and check-out vans properly, including the working condition before each shift;
- Review pick-up and drop-off lists of participants on route and keep accurate records;
- Maintain a punctual schedule;
- Assist with maintenance schedule of vans, including weekly wash and motor pool inspection;
- Contact the direct supervisor and motor pool when mechanical failures arise;
- Operate a computer and any applicable software;
- Answer phones and radios and work with the public, at all times, in a professional and courteous manner;
- Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
- Perform any other tasks or functions deemed necessary to the daily operations of the employer.
Performance of assigned duties and responsibilities may include prolonged standing, sitting, walking on level or unleveled surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, pushing, pulling, carrying, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. Incumbents may be required to lift, carry and/or push objects weighing 25 pounds or more.
