Engineering a world of possibilities
The Earth Observation Group (EOG) has a yearlong part-time position available for a graduate student in 2025-2026. The student will conduct research on the spatial extent and comparative brightness of offshore light pollution arising from lit fishing boats.
Past maritime light pollution studies have focused on lighting emitted by shoreline cities and towns. The study will outline the offshore areas affected by lit fishing boats and compare these sources with onshore light pollution sources. The study will also explore the feasibility for modeling artificial sky brightness levels based on satellite observed lighting.
