Description/Duties and Responsibilities
The City of Santa Clarita is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) Assistant Preschool Teacher. Under the supervision of the Recreation and Community Services Supervisor and Coordinator, this position will work directly with the Primetime Preschool program. Primetime Preschool serves children ages 3-5 at multiple locations, providing kindergarten readiness with a curriculum that develops young learners socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.
This position will work during the school year, September through May, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Organizes, plans, and works directly with the Recreation and Community Services Coordinator and Preschool Teacher to provide preschool programs for children
• Assists in the organization, set-up, clean-up, and opening and closing duties at various facilities
• Provides customer service to customers and parents of program participants, including responding to inquiries, supplying accurate information, and responding to questions over the phone, through e-mail, and on-site at City facilities
• Assists Preschool Teacher with developing, implementing, and leading the academic curriculum and planned daily activities
• Organizes, prioritizes, and follows up on work assignments
• Maintains a well-organized, safe, and inviting classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children
• Supervises and leads children, establishing positive relationships with program participants
• Leads the classroom and develops curriculum in Preschool Teacher’s absence
• Addresses behavior concerns in the classroom when necessary
• Maintains awareness of children’s needs and ensures proper staff/child ratio
• Handles sign-in/out procedures and communicates with parents when necessary
• Performs First Aid and responds to emergencies
• Purchases classroom materials and supplies with budget provided in Preschool Teacher’s absence
• Creates and maintains various forms, logs, and reports for program areas, including incident/accident reports
• Communicates with other City divisions/departments
• Attends meetings and training sessions
• Adheres to Los Angeles Department of Public Health guidelines set forth
• Performs other duties, as directed by Recreation Supervisor, Coordinator, and/or Preschool Teacher
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• A minimum of one year paid experience in preschool and/or child care programs
• Completion of six Early Childhood Education (ECE) units or degree/certificate equivalent is required
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within one month of hire, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid
Knowledge and Abilities
