Job Summary:
A Physical Therapy Assistant is someone who provides coordinated physical therapy to patients of all age groups under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. This position will promote patients' potential during their home health episode and collaborates with physician, clinical team and patient in preparation for discharge.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Physical Therapy Assistant, licensed per the state requirements
- 1 year of experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant in Home Health preferred
- Therapy skills as set forth in the Therapy Practice Act and other regulatory agencies.
- Proof of current CPR certification.
- Good communication skills, assessment skills, and strong clinical documentation skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language
- Reliable transportation. Valid and current auto liability insurance
Essential functions:
Patient Care & Treatment
- Delivers care as directed by the Physical Therapist and per physician orders in the plan of care
- Provides therapeutic exercises, massage, traction, heat/cold therapy, electrical stimulation, and other non-complex modalities
- Discontinues any treatment that may be harmful and reports concerns to the supervising PT
- Maintains patient safety and follows infection control and standard precautions
Communication & Collaboration
- Updates supervising PT on patient status, especially before reassessment and discharge
- Educates patients and caregivers using effective communication
- Participates in interdisciplinary communication and weekly case conferences
Documentation & Compliance
- Completes and synchs documentation by midnight, per agency standards
- Records all treatments and notes in compliance with regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines
- Ensures documentation supports third-party payor requirements
Professional Standards & Development
- Accepts assignments consistent with training and competency
- Complies with state regulations and national PT standards
- Maintains required continuing education
- Demonstrates ongoing professional growth and competency
- Participates in QAPI activities and agency in-service trainings
Environmental and Working Conditions:
- Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to travel locally.
- Some exposure to unpleasant weather.
Physical and Mental Effort:
- Ability to do heavy lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, and standing.
- Prolonged standing and walking required.
- Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and patient needs, and to meet patient and family individualized psychosocial needs.
- Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Continuing Education:
- Attends in-service and educational programs.
- Attends continuing education required for maintenance of professional license.
