On-call Chocolate Experience Ambassador

About Us
Dandelion Chocolate is a bean-to-bar chocolate factory in San Francisco’s Mission District. We make chocolate from only two ingredients, cocoa beans and cane sugar, and travel to origins as often as we can to build good, trusting relationships with the producers who grow and ferment our beans. Guests come to our factory not only to eat delicious chocolate, but also to learn about our story and process. We are looking for a Chocolate Experiences Ambassador who will help bring the Dandelion Chocolate experience to life for our visitors by leading tours and assisting with tours, events, and classes.

About the Role
As a Chocolate Experience Ambassador, you will lead tours through our craft, bean-to-bar chocolate factory, guiding guests through the journey of how chocolate is made—from the sourcing of ethically grown cacao to the final bar. Along the way, you'll share your knowledge, spark curiosity, and taste chocolate with guests as you explore the process together. This role is a great fit for someone who’s passionate about connecting with people, loves talking about food, and finds joy in sharing how things are made.

This position will be treated as an on-call role, with the potential to work up to 8 hours per week, depending on operational needs. As an on-call Chocolate Experience Ambassador, you will work with the Chocolate Experiences Team to deliver excellent, high-quality chocolate experiences to visitors at the Dandelion Chocolate factory.

You will be contacted in advance regarding available tour and event shifts, and we ask that you respond within 48 hours to confirm your availability. Please note that shift availability will vary—some weeks you may not be scheduled at all, while in other weeks, you may be offered up to one shift or more, depending on demand.

About You
You have a passion for education and teaching others, a deep respect for quality handmade products, and a near-magical ability to share our story with guests. Your attention to detail is unparalleled, and nothing makes you happier than when our supply closet is organized and everything is labeled and in its place. You are a master of communicating and engaging with diverse groups of people, from our guests to our café and production teams. Your positive attitude and ability to adapt shine when twice as many people show up for a class as expected, the electricity goes off during a tour, or you start your tour to find that your demo melanger has stopped working and all of the chocolate has solidified. You are always prepared to rise to any occasion with grace and good humor.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Experiences -- Once you have completed your training with the Chocolate Experiences Manager, you will be asked to lead tours on an as-needed basis.
  • Setup and Cleanup – You will be responsible for set up and clean up after your tour which takes about 15-20 minutes
  • Build Relationships -- Develop trusting relationships and clear communication throughout the organization so that team members in all departments are excited to work with you, even when they’re at their busiest.
  • Above-and-Beyond Service -- Connect with and ensure that guests have intimate and exceptional experiences for each event and class that leads to deeper engagement with chocolate. You will also help to affirm Dandelion Chocolate as a go-to destination for exquisite chocolate experiences.
  • Chocolate Making Expertise -- Continue to develop your chocolate knowledge by reading the blog, sourcing guide, and engaging in internal education opportunities.
  • Other tasks as necessary

Requirements

  • Reliable Availability -- We host tours Tuesday-Sunday each week and you may be asked to host a tour any of those days as early as 10 am and as late as 6 pm. You will also have the opportunity to support with later evening events running as late as 10 pm.
  • Training -- Within two weeks, complete our tour training program, including obtaining a food handler’s certificate (if you do not already have it). You will shadow public tours, lead a mock tour with the Experiences team, and co-lead a public tour once you are ready. You will be provided with reference materials, SOPs, and prerequisite material to review in preparation for the tour.
  • Language and Communication Skills -- Fluent written and spoken English and the ability to communicate with diverse groups of people. Fluency in other languages (especially Spanish and Japanese) is a huge bonus!
  • Teaching and Public Speaking -- Ability to engage with guests as a representative of Dandelion Chocolate and comfortable teaching and leading tours, events, and classes. Whether you are teaching a Girl Scout troop or a group of fellow chocolate makers, you are able to share and articulate your knowledge, and you’re okay saying when you don’t know an answer.
  • Prior teaching experience -- Experience teaching, in education, leading tours, or assisting with events or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Tech Skills -- Comfortability learning a new system so you can check guests in for their tour reservation on our scheduling system called Tock
  • Physical Stamina -- Ability to be on your feet and speaking for extended periods of time.

How to Apply
Please send your resume and a cover letter to jobs@dandelionchocolate.com. You will stand out from the crowd if your resume is accompanied by a cover letter with a few sentences about your favorite teaching technique. We will conduct a full interview and simulation for this role for anyone interested.
