Atlanta Autism Center (AAC) is seeking a qualified and experienced Laboratory Director to oversee the launch and ongoing operations of a new Physician-Owned Laboratory (POL) specializing in advanced genetic testing.
This is a pivotal leadership role for an individual passionate about compliance, clinical excellence, and diagnostic innovation. The ideal candidate will guide the lab from its early design and CLIA application phases through to full operational readiness and testing implementation, including Chromosomal Microarray (CMA), Fragile X, and eventually Whole Exome Sequencing (WES).
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Laboratory Director in accordance with CLIA, COLA, and CAP requirements.
- Collaborate with our consultant and team to guide the lab design, space planning, and initial build-out.
- Review and approve laboratory policies, validation protocols, and SOPs.
- Oversee hiring and training of lab personnel to ensure compliance and competence.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal and state laboratory regulations and accreditation standards.
- Review and sign-off on validation reports, quality assurance documentation, and test performance monitoring.
- Support payer enrollment and billing procedures by maintaining appropriate laboratory credentials.
- Provide scientific and regulatory input to ensure high-quality genetic diagnostic services.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Required: Eligibility to serve as Lab Director under CLIA regulations for high-complexity testing.
- Preferred: Current or past experience with COLA or CAP accredited labs.
- PhD, MD, DO, or DSc degree in relevant biological, clinical, or medical sciences.
- Board certification (ASCP, ABMGG, ABB, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
- Proven leadership in clinical laboratory operations, setup, or expansion projects.
- Experience with molecular diagnostic testing, especially CMA, Fragile X, or WES, is a strong plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Salary Description
$2,000 – $3,000/month
