Summary:
The Kennel Technician will be responsible for the care and treatment of shelter animals at the Great Falls Animal Shelter. A high school diploma and relevant animal handling experience are required.

Experience: Six months experience handling animals in a professional environment (animal shelter, veterinary clinic, etc)

Nature of Work
Works primarily without direction to provide onboarding, assessment and treatment of animals residing at the Great Falls Animal Shelter.
Essential Functions of Work
Facility Maintenance & Sanitation (40%)
- Performs necessary contamination control to prevent the spread of infection/disease.
- Sanitizes and disinfects kennels, cages, and animals.
- Scrubs walls, mops floors, and handles animal excretions.
- Performs light maintenance and repairs on the facility and grounds.
Animal Health & Care (35%)
- Provides initial and daily triage and health assessments on all animals.
- Ensures overall health conditions of animals meet required protocols.
- Administers treatments and medications as required.
Administrative & Customer Service (25%)
- Maintains medical treatment sheets relating to animal history.
- Updates resident binders for management and adopters.
- Provides customer service to shelter visitors.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Coursework in animal behavior or related field is preferred.
- Six months experience handling animals in a professional environment (shelter, veterinary clinic).
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Posession of a valid Montana driver’s license.
Requirements of Work
- Working knowledge of medical terms and treatment for animal care.
- Working knowledge of communicable diseases among animals.
- Ability to recognize and handle aggressive animal behavior.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not supervise any other positions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in a kennel environment; use of chemicals and exposure to animal excrement occurs daily.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The work schedule varies weekly, Sunday through Saturday.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day.
