Internship: IT Security Operations
Technology is the foundation of our work – and the work of every county employee. Be a part of our team at the information technology department to help our employees work smarter, faster, and better. We are seeking a student to participate in a part-time internship as a IT security operations intern. The intern in this position will participate in real-world incident response through learning and apply relevant security and Human Resources policies and controls. This position requires a level 3 security check as a requirement for employment.

Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. This internship will start in June 2025 and will last up to one year in duration. This intern will work approximately 20 hours/week. While this position is designated as remote, hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota.

In this position, you will:
- Analyze, classify, and process incoming email as potential spam or phishing attack.
- Be part of a Security Operations Center and respond to detections in the environment.
- Participate in security projects to mature existing tools.
- Participate in the development and documentation of security operations center process documentation.
- Assist in alert monitoring and response
- Analyze potential phishing emails and other threats
- Contribute to security projects to mature existing tools
- Participate in the development and documentation of security operations center process documentation
- Research security-related topics and present findings to the team
Need to have:
- Must be in one of the following:
- Current enrollment for the academic school year of 2025-2026 in a bachelor's or master's degree program in IT, cybersecurity, computer science, information assurance, or another related field.
- Recent graduate (within 6 months from graduation) in a bachelor's or master's degree program in IT, cybersecurity, computer science, information assurance, or another closely related field.
- Access to reliable internet access and self-support remote office space.
Nice to have:
- Experience with cybersecurity.
- Cybersecurity certifications such as Secuirty+ and CySA+
- Ability to:
- Follow documented processes.
- Troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
