High School Prep Instructor
Under the direct supervision of the Project STEP director and the Middle School Educator Coordinator, the High School Prep Instructor will facilitate a 6 week (Sept.-Oct.) intensive specialized high school test prep course for 8th grade students. From October through the end of the school year, the instructor will develop and facilitate a high school prep curriculum to 6th and 7th grade students. He/She will also support the 8th grade students in their high school selection process.
Qualifications
Responsibilities:
- Provide information, guidance, and general test preparation for NYC High School entrance exams
- Teach small groups and design appropriate lesson plans/workshops/exercises to suit the size and learning needs of the group.
- Knowledge of trends in education, career exploration and educational planning
- Administer test and evaluate results
- Support students in their high school admissions process
- Attend bi-weekly staff/planning meetings
- Additional tasks as needed.
Qualifications:

Strong academic skills in English and Math

Demonstrated interest in the field of education, child development

Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Minimum two years professional experience working with children in a classroom, after school, or community based environment. Substantial volunteer work will be considered

Familiarity with NYC HS admissions procedures and course materials

Proficient in understanding IEP’s and special needs and services for students

Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required

Well organized, able to work both independently and collaboratively

Able to work afternoons

Previous work experience in low-income communities
Please note that this is a part-time position. Must be available 4 afternoons (2:30pm-5:30pm), per week.
