HEALTH ASSISTANT
DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the site principal and credentialed District School Nurse, the health assistant will provide care for students who are ill, injured, need medication, need medical assistance, etc. Be knowledgeable about and implement student’s Individualized Health Plan. The Health Assistant will provide a variety of health-related clerical duties.
DUTIES:
- Assists students in personal care such as toileting, dressing, grooming and eating.
- Provides medical assistance consistent with training and policy.
- Accompanies student on school field trips, if needed.
- Refers students with health concerns (emotional and physical) to the school nurse.
- Other duties as assigned by the school nurse.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to function within legal and ethical constraints of the position, trustworthy and confidential.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate. Within six months of employment, acquire and maintain certificates in First Aid and CPR.
