Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
Cleans Grand Valley Transit (GVT) bus stops which includes benches, shelters and trash cans so that they are safe, clean and usable to the community. Assists RTPO staff with other tasks related to GVT stops and operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs regular inspections and cleaning of GVT stops with and without amenities (benches, shelters, trash cans). Performs trash removal, graffiti removal, periodic cleaning and minor weed control keeping all GVT stops safe, clean, and usable to the general public. Trash removal may include some hazardous waste (i.e. bodily fluids and needles). All needed protective gear will be provided. Work vehicle will also be provided.
Assists with installation and maintenance of signs, benches, shelters and trash cans. May oversee contractor work/repairs. Paints and refurbishes shelters and benches.
Researches and procures materials needed for maintenance and refurbishment of shelters and benches. Takes initiative and uses sound judgement to ensure bus stops are well maintained and safe and that all stops along all bus routes are well labeled.
Abides by the required purchasing policy and procedures.
Inputs data into GIS system relating to bus stop conditions and amenities.
Performs snow and ice removal at bus stops and transfer facilities, early morning if necessary. Performs grounds keeping duties including trimming trees and bushes and applying herbicide at bus stops.
Responds to emergent situations that have the potential to affect the safety and security of transit users relating to bus stop amenities.
Performs basic administrative and reporting-related tasks to keep inventory of bus stop amenities, and track maintenance and repairs of bus stops.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Candidate Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the job
- Safe driving practices, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Work efficiently and productively with minimal supervision
- Prepare accurate and complete records and reports of work performed
- Read and follow directions, both orally and in writing
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to use a smart phone/tablet to keep track of maintenance of stops
- Read and follow street and bus route maps
- Understand, interpret, and apply Materials Safety Data Sheet information and Haz-Mat kit instructions;
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and other equipment generally used for maintenance and repair.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of maintenance related experience.
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver’s License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, climbing ladders and lifting up to 50 pounds.
The employee is frequently exposed to dirt, smoke, fumes, heat and cold and outside atmospheric conditions.
