Appointments to this classification are on a limited term, hourly basis. No permanent appointments may be made in this classification.
Fire District Aides accomplish necessary and useful non-professional work within several divisions of the Fire District while also gaining valuable work experience in performing public service.
District Aides are needed in multiple Divisions, some of which are described below.
Emergency Medical Services
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District's EMS Division carries out and supports the First Responder ALS and Alliance Contract to provide EMS services to much of Contra Costa County. The EMS District Aide position is a vital support role to ensure our suppression personnel have all the equipment, resources and training needed to provide the highest level of patient care to our community.
Duties may include:
- Inventory and ordering EMS division medical supplies and medications, including coordinating with outside vendors
- Monitor EMS medication and supply requests and deliver medications and supplies to all fire stations
- Monitor medication expirations and exchange medications due for expiration with American Medical Response
- Monitor AED spreadsheet for battery and patch expirations and replacement
- Maintain EMS training supply closet
- Wash EMS vehicles and schedule maintenance and repairs
- Assist with delivery of training and set up of EMS Sessions
- Repair EMS training props
- Provide annual fit testing of employees for N95/P100 respirators
- Repair, order, and arrange maintenance for LP15 monitors, AEDs and LUCAS devices
- Assist other divisions with supply delivery, set up and break down equipment for special presentations, graduations, firefighter exams, and large training sessions
- Drive district support vehicles within and outside the County
Training Division
It is the mission of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, Training and Safety Division, to provide realistic and effective training and education for the purpose of advancing our personnel’s safety, performance, and career development through training methodologies and instruction.
Duties may include:
- Check supply levels in the training facility
- Vacuum, sweep, and empty trash inside the training facilities
- Fill self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles
- Wash, fuel, and clean training vehicles
- Set up training props
- Drive district support vehicles within and outside the County
Supply Division
The Supply section is the central warehousing point for the Fire District, working with vendors to perform periodic NFPA compliant inspections of PPE, repair of equipment and training of new equipment.
Duties may include:
- Receive, stock, and issue essential supplies to all fire stations
- Drive and deliver district vehicles between fire stations
- Deliver emergency supplies during regular and weekend shifts at emergency incidents
Apparatus Shop
The district apparatus shop provides routine maintenance and emergency repairs for our fire apparatus.
Duties may include:
- Assist fire mechanics as needed with fire apparatus repairs
- Keep the Apparatus Shop clean and stocked
- Drive district vehicles as necessary
Fire Prevention
The fire prevention division performs inspections of all new construction.
Duties may include:
- Support operations of the Prevention Division
- Special projects
Communications Division
The Communications Division operates the 911 system and manages the dispatch of first responders.
Duties may include:
- Logistical support of the Communications Division
- Delivery and pickup of related communications equipment
