Summary
We are currently hiring for a Financial Forecasting Registered Nurse I to join BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. In this role as a Financial Forecasting Registered Nurse I, you will perform clinical investigation of potential high-cost claimants and perform Excess Loss Medical Assessment and High Dollar Forecast as needed. Provides support to underwriting, actuarial, and external customers in the form of monitoring and predicting ultimate losses for potential future high-cost claimants. Supports cost containment through early identification and referrals to appropriate care management staff. Notifies appropriate unit and provides educational assistance when findings indicate need for further research and correction.

Location:
This position is full-time (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm and will be fully remote. Our ideal candidate must reside in SC.
What You’ll Do:
- Performs clinical investigation of potential high-cost claimants to include research of historical claims and current outlook status. Performs Excess Loss Medical Assessment and High Dollar Forecast as needed. Makes decisions regarding estimated length of episode using nursing knowledge of disease process as well as reference tools.
- Provides support to underwriting, actuarial, and external customers via completion of formal reporting of potential high-cost claimants, which includes clinical summary as well as ultimate financial impact projections. Accuracy of estimate range is audited and expected.
- Supports cost containment through early identification and referrals to appropriate care management staff (Medical Director, Case/Disease Management, Quality of Care Referrals, etc.).
- Notifies appropriate units and provides educational assistance when findings indicate need for further research and correction (example: claims processing issues).
To Qualify for This Position, You'll Need the Following:
- Required Education: Associates in a job related field
- Degree Equivalency: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing
- Required Work Experience: 6 years’ clinical experience. 4 years clinical experience if bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Required Skills and Abilities: Strong written communication and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to perform in-depth research and apply analytical and mathematical skills.
- Familiarity with the continuum of care as well as a wide range of costly episodes in the healthcare system.
- Working knowledge of word processing software.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and make sound decisions.
- Good judgment skills.
- Demonstrated customer service, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Ability to persuade, negotiate, or influence others.
- Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
- Required Software and Tools: Microsoft Office.
- Required Licenses and Certificates: Active, unrestricted RN licensure from the United States and in the state of hire, OR, active compact multistate unrestricted RN license as defined by the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
What We Prefer You To Have:
- Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- Preferred Work Experience: 4 years' healthcare program management.
- Preferred Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of managed care and various forms of health care delivery systems. Working knowledge of catastrophic claims cost, medical vendors, case management.
- Preferred Software and Tools: Working knowledge of Microsoft Access, or other spreadsheet/database software
