Job Description:

Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay) is welcoming applications for Field Supervisor, Illinois on the Teacher Preparation team. Relay’s mission is to ensure that all students are taught by outstanding educators. Individuals dedicated and well versed in culturally responsive pedagogy, social justice in education, and exceptional teaching practices will have an opportunity to thrive while ensuring that Relay students fulfill their aspirations of becoming teachers.

If you love coaching teachers, working on a team of experienced high-performing educators, and are hungry to further build your instructional leadership skillset, the Field Supervisor role is right for you. Supervising Relay students is a shared responsibility of Relay GSE and our partner schools. As a field supervisor, you will share the responsibility of supervising Relay students with Relay GSE and our partner schools. Your weekly activities will include communicating with your manager for supervision updates, conducting brief virtual observations and providing feedback, and keeping accurate records of student progress.

To grow your own skills as a teacher coach and leader of adults, you will have the opportunity to participate in team professional development and individualized coaching. This is a great opportunity for veteran teachers and/or past school leaders who are looking to gain additional experience leading adult educators, and who have experience using Danielson’s Framework for Teaching. If you are already employed with Relay GSE, please discuss with your interviewer and manager how this role would be situated within or outside your current role.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position, you will conduct field supervision for a caseload of approximately 50 Relay students in Illinois. The essential responsibilities of this position, while not limited to the following, will include:

Field Supervision: Observations & Feedback (~85-90%)

  • Conduct 5-minute virtual observations (video-based and asynchronous) of each Relay student within your caseload (~ 50 students) in their classroom setting, approximately 5 times a term (Fall and Spring terms)
  • Provide the Relay student with high-leverage written feedback aligned to Danielson’s Framework for Teaching and Relay’s clinical practice coursework

Field Supervision: Training and Caseload Management (~10-15%):

  • Complete Relay training and attend periodic check-ins with the Professor, Illinois Clinical Practice Field Experience (approximately two hours across the year; can be scheduled flexibly)
  • Communicate weekly with Relay students and manager:
    • With Relay students: Provide reminders of upcoming video-submission deadlines or answer student questions about feedback you have provided
    • With your manager, Professor, Illinois Clinical Practice Field Experience: share trends in strengths and areas for growth for Relay students and identify students who may require additional counseling, assistance, or support (e.g. campus growth plans, additional observations)

QUALIFICATIONS

First and foremost, the Field Supervisor, Illinois must share the Relay community’s commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. This includes providing teacher preparation programs that set novice teachers up to succeed in the classroom from day one; leadership programs that train new and veteran school and district leaders to best serve their school communities; and teacher-facing professional education that provides ongoing learning to educators. Additionally, for this position we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

  • A master’s degree or doctoral degree in a relevant educational field
  • At least five years of experience teaching in a P-12 setting
  • Must have Illinois teacher evaluator (PERA) training
  • Strength in developing strong relationships and community in in-person and online educational settings
  • Evidence observing, coaching, and developing new PK-12 teachers
  • Ability to commit to all required duties including the availability to regularly observe and provide feedback to a caseload of approximately 50 Relay students
  • Ability to commit to approximately 4 hours per week per caseload (observations & feedback) of 50 students

The following qualifications are highly preferred:

  • Availability for supervising more than one caseload of approximately 50 students
  • Experience working in PK-12 schools in Illinois
  • Evidence of or potential for advancing justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive initiatives in service of teacher preparation.

COMPENSATION

Relay is committed to creating and maintaining a compensation and benefits system that supports our ability to recruit and retain a diverse and talented team. As we make decisions about compensation, we will be guided by the following values: clarity, consistency, and internal equity. The salary range for this role is $2,500 - 3,400/the academic year. The offered salary will depend on the number of students assigned in a caseload. Before the Spring term, Relay will review and adjust your compensation for the remaining term due to enrollment increases or decreases as outlined in our compensation structure.

  • Relay does not currently differentiate starting salary offers based on years of experience,
  • All staff salaries will be capped at the salary range maximum, and
  • Relay does not negotiate salary offers.

Employees must have a primary work location within the U.S., where they are legally authorized to work. Relay is a registered employer in the following states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington State and Washington DC. Please note that Relay Graduate School of Education's headquarters are in New York City. Employees who choose to perform work from states not listed here will be subject to NYC state withholdings.
