Job Summary
The Director of Data Governance will be responsible for leading, managing and documenting the data governance program for our credit union. This role will provide first line risk management activities related to data governance, ensuring that data is managed and used in a secure, compliant, and efficient manner. The Director will work closely with various departments to establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures, and will provide recommendations for decision makers across the organization.

- Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance framework, including policies, standards, procedures, and governance technology
- Recommend and implement organizational Master Data Management (MDM) methodologies.
- Implement and lead an organizational data governance committee and provide consultation and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business and technology objectives.
- Lead requirements gathering, development and management of processes and technologies for data governance.
- Lead governance team members in documentation and the use of data management and data risk assessments methods and technology. Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address data-related risks.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with data governance policies and standards through effective controls.
- Provide guidance and support to data stewards and other data governance roles within the organization.
- Develop and deliver training programs to promote data governance awareness and best practices.
- Oversee data quality initiatives and ensure data integrity across the organization, working with the data governance committee, business stakeholders/leaders and system administrators.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure data governance requirements are integrated into systems and processes.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data governance and risk management; ensure dissemination of the most current information to the data governance committee
- Hire, manage, coach, develop and lead a high performing team and hold the team accountable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, business administration, data governance, or a related field.
Eight years working with data governance and/or master data management.
Five years of leadership responsibilities managing and working with multiple, large cross-functional teams or on projects that deliver meaningful technology products to internal and external stakeholders.
Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices.
Banking/Finance experience preferred.
Data governance certification preferred.
Computer/Office Equipment Skills
Technical proficiency in data architecture and data management
Technical proficiency in software and data development methodologies and technologies
Advanced level skill for Excel
Advanced knowledge in analytical and data visualization software
Advanced level skill with predictive analysis tools such as R, SAS, and Python
Managerial Responsibility
Has supervisory/managerial responsibilities that are direct or through work/team leads or assistants. Estimates personnel needs and assigns work to meet these needs. Supervises, coordinates and reviews work of assigned staff with a subordinate group of employees. Recommends candidates for employment, conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff.
Language Skills
Demonstrated ability to clearly express complex ideas, methodology, results and recommendations verbally, in writing, and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations in a meaningful and understandable way.
Demonstrated ability to document outcomes and present information in a manner appropriate for key stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Demonstrated experience building and sustaining credibility, influencing, and working collaboratively across senior levels of an organization.
Self-starter with strong organizing and time management skills and the ability to work productively and efficiently in a fast paced environment with multiple projects and timelines.
Successful track record leading an enterprise data governance team.
Adaptive to change, responds positively to altered circumstances or conditions.
Experience with risk management and compliance in a financial services environment.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CDMP, CIMP, DGSP) are a plus.
