Frontier Behavioral Health is a longstanding non-profit organization providing evidence-based treatment for various behavioral health issues in Spokane.

Summary:

The Crisis Clinician will provide telephonic and outreach crisis intervention and evaluation services while working part-time on weekends. Candidates need a bachelor's degree in a behavioral health related field and preferably two years of experience with affected populations.

Experience: Two years of experience working with psychiatrically impaired populations.

Job Description:

The Crisis Clinician is a member of a multi-disciplinary team, which provides telephonic and outreach crisis intervention and evaluation services to individuals and families. The primary goals of these programs are to divert individuals from admission to an emergency department, the criminal justice system, and inpatient psychiatric treatment while maximizing the use of community resources for stabilization purposes. These programs serve individuals who could have a co-occurring disorder and may also be homeless. MRRCT which includes the Mobile Crisis Assessment and Triage (MCAT) team and Child, Youth, and Family Mobile Crisis (CYFMC) team. The MCAT team serves individuals who are 21+ years old.

The Crisis Clinician provides rapid response, assessment services, crisis intervention, engagement, supportive counseling, information and referral, assistance with Medicaid enrollment as appropriate, linkage to requested/necessary resources and appropriate community-based mental health and linkage to substance use services for ongoing treatment and follow-up.

SHIFT: SATURDAY & SUNDAY 7AM-5:30PM - There is added shift differential for this shift of 10.98%. This a Part-Time position at 20 hours per week which is a .5FTE.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide initial and follow-up phone triage, assessment, and de-escalation services for individuals who are in an emotional or behavioral health crisis, including those referred for Involuntary Treatment Act (ITA) services.

  • Provide crisis and hospital diversion services to youth, adults, and families in a behavioral health crisis and facilitate use of/access to crisis hospital diversion resources.

  • Provide referral services to individuals requesting assistance or 3rd party referral sources to provide community stabilization and diversion services to the identified individual in crisis, including linkage to a Designated Crisis Responder (DCR).

  • Complete risk assessments to determine if the person is at risk for suicide and/or homicide, and staff the results of the assessment with a supervisor or clinician II to ensure the person’s safety and the safety of others.

  • Work in collaboration with the Mobile Dispatch Unit to ensure case response meets contract requirements.

  • High-risk cases must be brought to a supervisor, in a timely manner, for immediate and appropriate assistance related to response.

  • Provide initial and follow-up phone and face to face assessments for individuals who are at risk.

  • Create or further develop recovery plans and on-going support to promote stabilization plans with the individual’s support network.

  • Refer individuals who are eligible to Trueblood forensic programs, as appropriate.

  • In collaboration with clients and their support network, develop stabilization and safety plans that are reviewed with a Clinician II or supervisor.  

  • Complete comprehensive documentation which supports the safety plan as indicated.

  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of community resources and ability to access resources to support and address client needs.

  • Follow up on referrals made regarding at risk/high risk individuals to ensure stabilization and/or services obtained.

  • FBH will attempt to hire staff for a fixed shift. However, there may be a time that a clinician may be asked to work a different shift due to coverage concerns.

  • Maintain working relationships with the courts, attorneys, providers, police and sheriff's deputies, jail staff, clinical and administrative persons at inpatient psychiatric facilities throughout the state, staff of other agencies, advocates and consumer groups and citizens.

  • Participate in Peer Review, supervision, in-center educational and administrative meetings as directed.

  • Maintain client records and all other required documentation in a timely and confidential manner, in accordance with agency policies and practices.

  • Assist non-Medicaid individuals to access Medicaid as appropriate.

  • Provide case management and wrap-around services as needed.

  • Assist clients in obtaining basic needs such as emergency housing/shelter services, financial assistance, medical services, medications, and other resources that will help them maintain stability in the community.

  • Provide coaching, advocacy, information and referral, linkage and coordination with resources, and ongoing support.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health related field

  • Must submit for Agency Affiliation within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED:

  • Two years of experience working with psychiatrically impaired populations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong engagement and customer service skills, empathy, ability to remain calm, professional, and clear headed during escalated situations.

  • Knowledge and skills in working with individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders.

  • Knowledge of or ability to gain knowledge of all WAC and RCW requirements for Crisis and Involuntary Treatment Services

  • Ability to communicate and engage effectively with individuals of varied backgrounds, trauma experiences, cultures, education level, and socio-economic status.

  • Ability to manage 10 to 20 active cases

  • Demonstrate evidence of critical thinking, decision-making ability, problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously.

  • Must have reliable transportation, insurance and an active driver’s license and be willing to use personal vehicle in the course of work.

  • This position provided client services in community settings on a daily basis.  Community settings include but are not limited to residences, group/congregate living settings, hospitals, shelters, the streets or anywhere in the community at large. Some environments may not be ideal in terms of cleanliness or being habitable. Daily travel between locations is required.

  • The ability to drive a vehicle, traverse distances up to several city blocks and on various terrains, navigate stairs, get in and out of vehicles frequently is required.

  • Daily use of a computer is required.

  • May be required to lift 10 - 20 pounds.  

  • Blood-borne Pathogen Category III - No predictable exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

PAY RANGE (Hourly/ Non-Exempt): $25.89-$31.53

 All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus, the starting base pay for this position is $25.89 per hour.

This position is eligible for added shift differential of 10.98% for the SATURDAY & SUNDAY 7AM-5:30PM shift.

This a Part-Time position at 20 hours per week which is a .5FTE.
