Community Health Worker - Relief
Under direct supervision, provides a variety of support services to Human Services staff and clientele; and performs related work as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direct supervision from assigned supervisory or management staff. Exercise no supervision of staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is a fully competent level class responsible for providing a wide variety of support services to professional and technical staff, and clientele in community health programs. This class is distinguished from the Health Technician class series in that the latter exercise greater discretion in the performance of their duties, and require more specialized knowledge of specific program areas.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:
- Problems, needs, attitudes and behavior patterns of community residents.
- Available community resources.
- Basic record keeping and report preparation techniques.
- Basic medical terminology.
- Understanding and following oral and written instructions.
- Gathering complete and accurate information from participants.
- Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.
- English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
- Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and County staff.
Ability to:
- Learn the regulations and procedures affecting assigned community health program.
- Learn to interpret and apply eligibility requirements for participants.
- Learn the health related resources within the community.
- Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized software applications programs.
- Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
- Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy and legal guidelines.
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would beEquivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) grade
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
