CTG is seeking to fill a CICS Systems Programmer opening for our client in New York.
Location: Remote
Duration: 6 months
Overview:
CTG is hiring a CICS Systems Programmer to support our client, a leading financial institution, within their Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Team. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to collaborate on innovative, enterprise-scale mainframe solutions that power banking operations and services. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of CICS and associated mainframe infrastructure, ensuring optimal system performance, security, and availability.
Primary Responsibilities:

Act as lead architect on cross-functional projects, driving solution design and implementation

Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of CICS systems and related software
-
Perform health checks, patch management, upgrades, and system validation activities

Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, identifying root causes and permanent fixes

Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff and project teams

Attend vendor conferences to gather insights on new technologies and represent the organization

Use automation tools to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and security

Create and review technical documentation, contributing to internal standards and knowledge bases

Collaborate with management and architecture teams on long-term infrastructure strategies

Ensure adherence to risk management and regulatory compliance standards
Scope of Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive support for CICS, including installation, troubleshooting, and system maintenance
-
Manage SMP/E environments and support z/OS CICS monitoring tools
-
Utilize scripting and automation to improve system administration and performance
-
Interface with vendors to resolve incidents and ensure system health
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

Mentor and guide less experienced team members

Provide direction during incident response and coordinate with teams to resolve system issues

Review and approve technical documentation from junior staff
Education and Experience Required:
-
Combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or relevant work experience
-
Experience managing complex infrastructure projects and leading technical teams
-
Demonstrated expertise in CICS systems programming and z/OS environments
-
Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills
-
Ability to communicate technical concepts to varied audiences, including senior management
Education and Experience Preferred:
-
Combined minimum of 10 years’ higher education and/or related work experience

Certifications or training in related technologies

Familiarity with Rexx scripting, Python, DB2, and MQ
-
Interest in modern Z technologies, including GUI-based and web-enabled mainframe interfaces
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $95,000 to $115,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefit package is also offered.
