Job Description:
General Purpose
Burlington City Arts is seeking dynamic, professional and experienced Teaching Artists with expertise in studio arts to lead adult and/or youth art classes. Notable considerations for candidates with experience in arts integration and expertise in multiple disciplines including ceramics, drawing and painting, mixed media craft, printmaking, photography, and fine metal jewelry.
Union Affiliation: Non-Union
Pay Grade: $35.00 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero(0) days remote/week.
Essential Job Functions
Teaching Artists will work in cooperation with BCA Staff to lead group classes and/or camps at the BCA Studios, the BCA Center and/or at off-site residency sites including schools and community organizations. Teaching Artists must be able to create quality lesson plans, create supply lists within budgetary restrictions and provide an outstanding arts experience for customers. Teaching Artists are responsible for the set up and cleanup of their studio spaces before and after classes as well as attendance and some student paperwork.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements
- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Bachelor's Degree in Arts Education or Fine Arts preferred.
- Prior teaching experience in art programs preferred.
- Proficiency in art-making techniques including but not limited to: ceramics, printmaking, screen printing, drawing, painting, photography, digital arts and fine metals preferred.
- Must have a desire to work with students and must demonstrate ability to communicate in a clear and helpful manner with BCA staff, teachers, students and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively required.
- Customer Service experience preferred.
- Must demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm, punctuality and dependability.
- Cooperative attitude and team-player attitude.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to a changing schedule.
- Must be able to lift tables, chairs, easels, and other studio equipment and supplies.
- Must be able to work hours onsite.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
- Ability to professionally represent the City of Burlington and the City Arts Department in all dealings with community members.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
