Lootup Review: Is It Worth It? (Proof of Earnings)

Unfortunately, Lootup pays an incredibly low hourly rate compared to other, similar platforms, so it isn’t worth it unless you’re having problems signing up for its competitors or you specifically want to get paid in crypto (the most unique feature the site offers).

If you don’t have a burning desire to cash out what you make in Bitcoin or Dogecoin, there are better-paid rewards sites out there. Check out our review of InboxDollars for one example.

On paper, Lootup’s low minimum redemption threshold ($1) also looks like a selling point that might justify using the site. However, Lootup’s low rate (and the number of surveys that outright disqualified us) made it quite difficult to earn even that small amount.

How much can you realistically earn?

We tested Lootup for about 5¼ hours. Here’s what we found:

Lootup claims that some people make $5 to $15 a week or $20 to $50 a month on the site. Here’s what we found.

On Lootup, you accumulate points that you can exchange for rewards.

How much are points worth in Lootup?

On Lootup, 1,000 points are worth $1. In other words, 1 point is worth 0.1 cents.

Lootup also has a separate exchange rate for Bitcoin, but this changes frequently as the currency fluctuates in value.

How much do you need to earn to get paid?

Lootup’s site said that we needed 1,000 points (equivalent to $1) to redeem via PayPal or an Amazon gift card. There are higher minimum redemption thresholds for other payment methods.

How long does it take to get paid?

Lootup says that it will take 1–2 business days to receive your earnings as a gift card or PayPal payment. Crypto may take longer—up to 5 business days.

Is there a limit on how much you can earn?

Lootup doesn’t cite any particular limits on the amount you can earn. The main limitation appears to be the number of surveys you can qualify for, as we struggled to qualify for any.

Sign up

Lootup’s signup process is simple. You just have to provide an email and create a username and password.

You can get points at a few parts of the process:

• Promo offers: After you sign up for Lootup, you may receive a promo offer that gives you free points. We received 250 points (equivalent to $0.25) after we signed in for the first time. It’s unclear whether all new signups get free points or if it’s an occasional thing.
• Verifying your email and phone number: You can get 10 points (equivalent to 1 cent) for verifying your email and another 10 points for verifying your phone number.
• Completing your “Market Research Profile”: You can get another 50 points (equivalent to $0.05) by completing a questionnaire, called your Market Research Profile, after making it to the Lootup dashboard. This consists of 14 questions about your personal information, household, job, health, and more. Lootup says that completing it will give you access to their highest-paying survey opportunities (although there’s no way to check whether this is true or not).

Lootup’s signup page makes it look like there’s a $5 signup bonus, but this is misleading. Lootup offers a bonus of 5,000 points (worth $5), but that’s only if you earn at least 10,000 points within your first 30 days as a site user. Earning that much requires a big time investment.

Our experience

When we signed up for Lootup, we found that we already had an account. Lootup is partnered with PixelPoint TV, which we’d registered for while using a different rewards site.

Despite already being signed up, we still got 10 points (equivalent to 1 cent) for verifying our email address and another 10 points for verifying our phone number when we signed in for the first time. All of this only took us a couple of minutes.

You don’t have to provide a phone number when you sign up for Lootup. However, our tester did it because Lootup said it would unlock faster gift card redemption options and more opportunities to earn.

As we’ve already mentioned, we also received 250 free points as a “promo offer.” At the end of the signup process, we completed our Market Research Profile, which took us about 5 minutes and yielded 50 points (equivalent to $0.05).

Altogether, this process took about 9 minutes and bagged us a whopping $0.32 in rewards.

Take surveys

Like many similar sites, Lootup has “survey profile questions” that they use to personalize the surveys they show you. However, many sites give you rewards for completing these types of questions, whereas Lootup doesn’t. Answering them might help Lootup to match you with more surveys you qualify for, but there’s no guarantee of that.

If you decide you want to answer survey profile questions despite the lack of direct rewards, you can go to “Account Info” in the main menu and look for “My Survey Profile.”

Lootup’s paid surveys

Most of Lootup’s paid surveys can be found, as you’d expect, under the “Surveys” tab. The surveys feature labels like:

• General
• Profile matched
• Easy to complete
• High paying
• Feedback

Lootup doesn’t define these labels, although most are fairly self-explanatory. The most opaque is “Feedback surveys”; our hunch is that these task you with commenting on products and advertisements.

Surveys also indicate whether your rewards will be paid out instantly. Note that “instant” rewards aren’t truly instant; there may still be a delay of up to half an hour.

Our experience

After we completed the Market Research Profile at the end of the signup process (which, as we mentioned, gave us 50 points), we completed most of the survey profile questions. This took us a long time—about 26 minutes—and yielded no rewards.

We took 52 other surveys, of which:

• 2 were successful and gave us points.
• A staggering 50 were unsuccessful (either disqualifying us or giving us error messages) and yielded no points.

Put another way, a full 96% of the surveys we tried wasted our time. This drastically reduced Lootup’s effective hourly rate, making it very hard to recommend the site.

Play games

There are lots of games you can play on Lootup. You will find these under the “Mobile App Offers” tab on the “Earn” page.

None of them are in-browser games—they’re all smartphone apps that you have to download to play. This is a black mark against the site, since it means that you’re forced to use your phone (instead of your desktop) and have to clutter it with apps if you want to earn by playing.

Our experience

The first game we attempted to download from Lootup was Candy Crush Saga. However, we got an “offer not available” message on our mobile device when we scanned the QR code to download it.

We then tried a game called WordSearch, which promised us 84 points (equivalent to 8.4 cents). We played the game for about 18 minutes and got the 84 points we were expecting (plus an additional bonus of 15.12 points that Lootup gave us as part of its “Daily Loot Chest” program, which we’ll talk about more later).

We’ve had many bad experiences with rewards sites giving us no points for downloading and playing their games, so we were happy with our (admittedly modest) earnings from WordSearch.

Complete offers

In addition to games, Lootup has many other ways to earn through special deals and offers. You can download and use mobile apps, try new products and services, read articles, take quizzes, and more.

In addition to its own offers, Lootup also features third-party offers from:

• MyChips
• Torox
• RevU
• Adgem

Our experience

We tried two offers, one of which was (mostly) successful, one of which failed.

Our first offer: We tried a Torox offer called “Stop Spending, Start Saving.” We had to click and view at least one link on the page we visited to get 16 points.

First, we clicked into a $1 Panera bread coupon. Our tester is gluten-free, so she didn’t take Panera up on this, but the same offer also gave us a link to P&G Good Everyday (a rewards program with coupons from brands like Dawn and Tide), which we followed. Upon signing up with our email address, we received our reward, although we didn’t get the full 16 points; instead, we earned a measly 15.36. It was unclear why this was.

Our second offer: We also tried an offer from RevU, which told us we could “qualify for rewards and samples from Pizza Hut” and earn 600 points. Confusingly, the link sent us to a competition to win a Shein gift card.

We completed the offer by filling in a form with our details and answering a string of questions. Unfortunately, we didn’t earn any points for our efforts.

Visit Lootup’s social media pages

You can earn rewards by visiting Lootup’s page on:

The first time you visit these sites via Lootup, you can get 5 points (equivalent to 0.5 cents) per site. Sporadically, Lootup’s pages may also feature promo codes that will yield further rewards.

Our experience

We visited all five of the Lootup social media pages and, as expected, got 5 points for each one we visited (so we earned about 2.5 cents in total).

We also found a code on Facebook that gave us 55 points (equivalent to 5.5 cents).

Watch videos

You can click on the “Watch Videos” tab on Lootup to do just that. This part of the Lootup site features clips (e.g., ads) from Lootup’s partners.

You have to create accounts with these third parties to earn points from watching their videos. You’ll then get points that you can transfer to Lootup. However, there may be a minimum threshold you need to reach before you can do so, which makes this earning opportunity somewhat complicated.

Our experience

We found getting points by watching videos very confusing. When Lootup sends you to their partners, you have to sign up (and sign in) to get rewards, and we found tracking our login status across all of these sites quite challenging.

We watched videos on Hideout TV for about 25 minutes. However, we didn’t earn enough points to transfer any rewards across to Lootup, so this was a failure (although we did enjoy some cute pet videos).

We also spent about 40 minutes watching videos on PixelPoint TV (on topics like fitness, mental health, gaming, and caring for curly hair). Ultimately, we were only able to transfer 9 PixelPoint TV points to Lootup; these were worth 10 Lootup points, so we effectively made 1 cent for over an hour’s work.

Our poor earnings can be at least partly blamed on our own inefficient video-watching strategy, but Lootup’s complicated point-transfer system also bears a share of the responsibility. All in all, we thought this earning opportunity was a bit of a dud and can’t recommend it.

Subscribe to push notifications

Lootup says you can subscribe to push notifications and receive promo codes that will give you free points or earnings multipliers (which pay out a bonus that’s equivalent to a certain percentage of your earnings on a given task). 1

You should also earn 25 points just for subscribing to push notifications, although we weren’t able to confirm this.

Our experience

We clicked the “Subscribe to Push Notifications” icon on the Lootup dashboard, but it did nothing, possibly because we were testing on a desktop computer and you need to use a mobile device for it to work. There was no actual error message, so this is a guess on our part.

Invite friends

When you refer a friend to Lootup, you’ll get a commission equivalent to 15% of everything they earn.

You’ll also qualify for a monthly referral contest. This ranks Lootup users according to the number of people they’ve referred to the site and the location and activity of these referrals. The Lootup site has more information about how referral contest points work.

Our experience

We don’t have very many friends, so we weren’t able to test this feature.

Lootup has many extra features to help you boost your earnings.

Level up

On Lootup, you graduate through “levels” as you earn points. You can get bonuses for leveling up.

Check the Lootup dashboard to see the level you’re currently at, the number of points you need to earn to reach the next level, and the bonus you’ll earn when you level up.

Our experience

To level up on Lootup, the first milestone we had to hit was earning 2,000 points (to reach level 2). Unfortunately, we didn’t quite make the cut, so we didn’t get the 100-point bonus that awaited us.

Open the Daily Loot Chest

The Daily Loot Chest is a simple task you can do each day to increase your earning potential on Lootup. It gives you a percentage bonus to be added to your earnings for the next task you complete.

To get this bonus, you just have to click on the Daily Loot Chest; you’ll see what percentage bonus Lootup is offering. You’ll then get the extra points added to your earnings for the next eligible “offer” you complete.

Broadly speaking, “offers” may include surveys and games, but it’s not always clear which activities are eligible for Daily Loot Chest bonuses.

Our experience

We opened the Lootup Daily Loot Chest several times. Each time, we received either a 13% or an 18% bonus on the next offer we completed (with a 24-hour time limit before the offer expired).

We used these bonuses on three occasions.

• We got a 13% earnings bonus added to our earnings for a survey that paid 427 points, meaning that we got an extra 55-point bonus (equivalent to about 5.5 cents) on top of the original 427 points.
• We got another 13% bonus added to our earnings for a survey that paid 650 points, so we got an extra 84.5-point bonus (about 8.5 cents) on top of the original 650 points.
• We got an 18% bonus to our earnings for playing the game WordSearch, which paid 84 points; we got an extra 15.12 points (1.5 cents) on top of the original 84 points.

Lootup’s bonuses were added to our balance immediately, which was nice—some sites only pay out bonus earnings after days or weeks.

Enter giveaways

Lootup has many giveaways you can enter to win prizes. As a bonus, you’ll get 25 points (equivalent to about 2.5 cents) for the first one you enter.

Some of Lootup’s giveaways are free and some cost points to enter. Each time you register for one, you’ll need to fill out a form with your personal details and then also answer additional questions.

Our experience

We entered four giveaways—three draws to win 15,000 points, and one draw to win 30,000. We didn’t win anything, although we did at least get 25 points for entering the first one.

For each draw, we had to fill out a form with our personal details and answer a few other questions.

Install the Lootup Browser extension

Lootup has a browser extension called the Lootup Deal Finder. This is a tool that allows you to earn cash back and get discount coupons when you shop online with certain retailers.

If you’ve installed the extension, you’ll get discounts directly applied to your shopping cart when you check out. Lootup claims you’ll get 25 points (2.5 cents) as a reward for simply installing the extension, even if you don’t use it.

Our experience

We installed the Lootup Deal Finder browser extension. Doing so earned us 10 points (equivalent to 1 cent), less than promised.

We tried out the extension on Amazon, and it gave us three modest discount coupons (for a dietary supplement, a brand of speakers, and a flashlight). Our tester wasn’t in the mood for any of these products, so she didn’t use her coupons.

Win contests (by qualifying for the Lootup leaderboard)

Lootup offers you extra opportunities to win bonus points by qualifying for one of their leaderboards.

Lootup has leaderboards for users who have:

• Earned the most points that week
• Earned the most points that month
• Completed the largest number of surveys
• Earned the most “contest points” from referrals

When other people join Lootup using your referral link, you’ll receive up to 200 contest points per referral, with the exact number of points depending on your referral’s location and activity.

If you rank high enough on any of these leaderboards, you may receive a share of one of Lootup’s prize pools, which are worth $100–$2,000 (100,000–2,000,000 points).

Our experience

We didn’t earn enough points to win any prizes from the Lootup leaderboard. Our hunch is that winning is out of reach for the vast majority of users.

You can cash out your earnings on Lootup in several forms: gift cards, PayPal credit, prepaid cards, and even crypto.

PayPal

You can redeem via PayPal if you have 1,000 points or more. To do this, just enter your PayPal email address. You may then have to complete a selfie verification step (our tester had to do this).

Lootup says that they take 1–2 business days to send you PayPal payments.

Prepaid cards

We saw two types of Visa prepaid card on Lootup:

• Physical card: You can get a physical prepaid Visa card sent via mail. You’ll have to pay a shipping and handling fee of $3.00 out of your card balance, so this isn’t a great option.
• Virtual card: You can use these to shop online, or you can add them to your mobile wallet or digital payment services to use in physical stores that accept contactless payments. You won’t have to pay any fees, and you’ll get your virtual card faster than a physical card, so we prefer this option.

You can redeem amounts ranging from $5 to $1,000.

Cryptocurrency

You can redeem your Lootup points for cryptocurrency (through BitPay) if you have at least 5,100 Lootup points. The currencies available are Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), and Shiba Inu (SHIB).

To cash out your earnings as crypto, you’ll have to pay a 1% fee.

Lootup says that it may take you up to 5 days to receive your payment.

Gift cards

There are dozens of retailers that offer gift cards on Lootup. The ones that we saw included:

• Target
• Walmart
• Whole Foods
• Uber
• Uber Eats
• DoorDash
• Hulu

Lootup says that it may take 1–2 business days for you to receive your gift card.
