Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Youth Development Professional
Reports to: Site Supervisor
Status : Part-Time hourly up to 25 hours/ week, Non-Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the general supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Youth Development Professional (YDP) plans, organizes, promotes, and implements a diversified program for Boys & Girls Club core program areas.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares youth for success
-
Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of BGCA Youth Development Outcomes.
-
Promotes and stimulates daily learning center program participation as well as participation in designated national and special event programs.
-
Orients new members to program area, special events, and opportunities as well as club safety, program and disciplinary rules.
-
Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
-
Works from trauma-informed, equity-based behavior modification support models.
-
Responds to feedback and redirection of leadership as part of our Continuous Quality Improvement guidelines in the moment and without push back.
Program Development and Implementation
-
Implements, monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities for members. Develops and posts weekly and monthly program plans.

Monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members and quality in programs.

Recognizes Club members for program participation and achievement.
-
Maintains records to track attendance and participation.
-
Maintains Meal and Snack (CACFP point of service and clean up (if applicable).
Supervision
-
Maintains order and discipline of Club members.
-
Supervises and trains volunteers and program assistants.
-
Ensures a productive work environment by participating in club leader meetings.
-
Monitors supply needs.
-
Keeps supplies neat and orderly.
Additional Responsibilities
-
May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other Club activities as necessary.

Consult with parents concerning member and Club issues.
-
Assume all other duties as assigned.
Relationships
-
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems, as directed by Club Director.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
-
Must be at least 18 years of age.
-
Must possess a High School diploma or GED.
-
Must submit three (3) professional references.
-
Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check, fingerprinting, and reference check prior to employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Skilled in art, music, STEM, technology (preferred)
-
Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to 1- 2 years where there is:
-
Experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development.
-
Instruction of youth while creating engaging learning experiences.
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
-
Ability to work well with the public.
-
Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for youth.
-
Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
-
Utilize free and donated supplies and encourage donations from community contacts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT/QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
-
Must be able to squat or bend to communicate at youths’ level.
-
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.
-
Must be able to participate in physical activities throughout the facility, on the property and/or on field trips.

A conversation decades in the making. “Why does Muskegon not have a Boys & Girls Club?” For year’s community focused groups discussed and attempted the opening of a Boys & Girls Club in Muskegon. However, in each case there was a common denominator. The financial resources needed to open and sustain a Boys & Girls Club. In 2013 those discussions started becoming more than just words. Planning began, a board was formed and a funding campaign developed. By the fall of 2014 the founding board of directors raised just over $1,000,000 for the seed money necessary to operate a Boys & Girls Club for three years. The greatest obstacle, financing the club was overcome.
After years of waiting and months of tireless nights the Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshores door opened in Nelson Elementary School on April 20th of 2015 to its first 30 members. By the end of 2015 the clubs membership reached over 300, serving over 70 youth every day. Within that year the club served over 7,000 meals and set operating hours to be open when youth were most in need.
Today, the Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore continues growth and continues to receive new opportunities to serve youth in areas of Muskegon County which need us most. There is a saying amongst the organization that has held true since day one. “Dreams Don’t Work Unless You Do.” We believe Great Futures are ahead for the youth of Muskegon County, but realize without the Boys & Girls Club Great Futures are only a dream. Our future awaits in making the dream of Great Futures a reality.
