Established in 1973, YCD is a nonprofit organization who serves residents of all ages living in the most historically underserved communities of San Francisco. YCD takes a holistic approach via a delivery eco-system of services designed to empower residents in achieving economic mobility, in turn building and sustaining a positive community by providing them with education opportunities, workforce development training, and social services. Project Overview 

The Phoenix Project provides relentless outreach, one-on-one coaching and multiyear support to participants in need of trauma informed care living in the four HOPE SF communities (Hunters View, Alice Griffith, Sunnydale and Potrero Terrace & Annex) and two (2) additional Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) sites (Oakdale and Harbor). The Phoenix Project utilizes a bio-psychosocial-cultural-spiritual (BPSS) framework to holistically address individuals’ needs and facilitate trust and development. Leveraging a collaborative of eight (8) community-based partners, the Phoenix Project provides a holistic approach to service delivery, designed to work with young people who do not feel safe and valued in traditional programming and institutions. Phoenix Project partners provide life coaches/peer advocates, educational/employment services, behavioral/physical health services, peace promotion, and barrier remediation services.

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a temporary part-time position for a duration of 3 months from date of hire. This position is in person, Monday – Friday.

Reporting to the Program Director, the Youth Development Advocate (YDA) will provide relentless outreach (High level proactive outreach walking around public housing developments on foot daily) and follow up designed to meet young people where they are and build trust. The YDA will also respond to the critical needs of the Phoenix youth, and inform the Director of incidents needing immediate response. Most importantly the YDA will arrive promptly to their

service site on time each day. Youth Development Advocate understands through positive and intensive relationships youth can gain competencies in health, education and employment that move them toward wellness and economic independence. YDA’s will assist in organizing community events to familiarize residents with resources Phoenix Project offers to Transitional Age Youth (TAY) living in HOPES SF/ RAD sites. YDA will keep Phoenix TAY on track to success and document interactions via electronic tablets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Youth Development Advocates (YDAs): The YDAs are responsible for completing the initial baseline mental health surveys and needs assessments during the formal enrollment of engaged youth in Year 1, Quarter 2. They also administer the subsequent 1-year follow–up re-surveys and meet with existing youth to evaluate changing scores.
• Visit schools at least twice a week on directive from Phoenix Life Coach
• Collect and secure documents from youth for the Phoenix Life Coach including attendance, progress reports, behavior reports and other necessary updates
• Attend IEP meeting for clients on of directive of Phoenix Coach
• Write detailed participant contacts via Salesforce which will include a paragraph (4 to 5 sentences) or more. The detailed information will include which client you met with and what was accomplished.
• Attend recreational outings on directive from Phoenix Life Coach
• Communicate in a timely manner in regard to text messages, emails, phone calls from Phoenix coach and clients.
• Outreach in community building relationships through disseminating flyers door to door in community and attending community events to build authentic relationships with residents.
• Wear provided identifying clothing of the Phoenix Project while conducting outreach and school visits (Phoenix Project Jacket, Phoenix Project Lanyard with business card, or Phoenix Project shirt).
• Phoenix Coach on and offsite and attend YCD/Phoenix mandatory staff trainings and meetings when requested.
• Provide initial contact and intake of TAY youth, maintain Phoenix Project paperwork as needed
• Facilitate contact with TAY youth within their service area by meeting on site, at their schools or places of employment depending on needs of TAY
• Assist in addressing issues of TAY youth safety, ensure staff are aware of any existing conflicts and work with team to mediate issues

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

A successful candidate will possess:

• Minimum of 5 years experience working with youth and young adults in trauma impacted areas. Some college experience is preferred.
• Demonstrate competency with using Salesforce, data entry, Microsoft Office Suite, Google platform, Zoom and other technology platforms.
• Valid California Driver’s license with proof of insurance.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written communications, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills.
• Ability to think critically, problem solve and be resourceful.
• Embraces cultural differences and is willing to foster diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Self-motivated individual who has a passion to ensure that program goals, objectives and tasks are completed in a timely fashion and exceeds standards.
• An efficient multi-tasker who demonstrates effective time management and the capacity to meet competing deadlines.
• Must have proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong commitment to the mission of the Phoenix Project, Young Community Developers Inc. and to individuals from diverse populations.
• Well organized, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet goal objectives; excellent team player. True attention to detail, ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
• Continuous commitment to improve occupational knowledge.

COMPENSATION: $25.00 per hour

Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
