Summary
The Personal Wellness Trainer will conduct wellness assessments, design personalized exercise programs, and track member progress to help them achieve their health goals. They are also responsible for building genuine relationships with members and ensuring the safe use of wellness equipment within the facility.
Job Description
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is one of the largest charities in the DC area. The Y serves as an anchor in the community offering programs and services encompassing youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Position: Personal Wellness Trainer Pay: Commission based, average $25-$35 per hour

As a Personal Wellness Trainer, you’ll guide members on their wellness journey by listening to their goals, creating personalized exercise plans, and encouraging progress through sustainable habits.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct wellness assessments and help members establish meaningful goals to support their healthy lifestyle.
- Design safe, personalized exercise programs.
- Track member progress and adjust plans based on member needs.
- Build genuine relationships that encourage and motivate members.
- Develop and maintain a personal wellness training client base.
- Promote safe use of wellness equipment and uphold YMCA safety standards throughout the wellness center.
- Maintain required certifications and participate in ongoing training.
- Help create a welcoming, inclusive environment where every member feels valued.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Nationally recognized personal training certification.
- YMCA Fitness Specialist, ACSM certification, or equivalent education/expertise.
- At least one year of personal training experience.
- Knowledge of strength equipment and safe exercise practices.
- Strong communication skills and a genuine desire to help people succeed.

Our utmost goal is to make the Y and all we offer accessible and available to the entire community. With the help of our generous donors, community partners and members, we were able to provide $2,662,507 in scholarships and subsidies to more than 12,400 children, adults and families in 2014.
Over 3,140 volunteers gave 161,572 hours of their time and talent in 2014 to help the YMCA fulfill its mission. From dedicated board members to talented program volunteers, these caring friends and neighbors help the YMCA serve more individuals and impact more communities every year.
