Assignment: Seasonal, from December 1st through August 31st annually
Schedule: Average 15 hours per week
Pay: $45 per hour
Location: On-site in Hayward, CA

Position Overview

The Head Coach Women’s Rugby is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, and professional execution of all teams under the Life West Women’s Rugby umbrella (including Division 1, Division 2, and 7s programs). The position also supports the growth and development of the Men’s Rugby Program through strategic collaboration and shared resources.

This role is integral to the recruitment and retention of high-performing chiropractic student-athletes and supports the holistic mission of Life West through sport and community engagement.

Job Responsibilities

Lead all operational, coaching, and development aspects of the Life West Women’s Rugby Program.
Provide oversight to all women’s teams including but not limited to D1, D2, and 7s.
Ensure alignment of all men’s rugby activities with the strategic goals of the College.
Collaborate with the Men’s Rugby Head Coach to provide cross-program support and continuity in coaching philosophy and resource planning.
Recruit high-quality student-athletes who demonstrate potential in both rugby and chiropractic education.
Establish and meet annual recruitment targets aligned with institutional enrollment goals.
Represent Life West Rugby in high-performance and college showcase environments domestically and internationally.
Design and deliver high-performance training sessions, match strategies, and player development programs.
Drive team performance to achieve top results in league and national competitions.
Mentor assistant coaches, team managers and provide leadership to the broader rugby staff.
Coordinate match schedules, travel logistics, compliance reporting, and budget planning with Athletics and College departments.
Maintain clear and timely communication with student-athletes, college staff, alumni, and governing bodies.
Ensure all game day compliance and operational logistics are executed to the highest standard, including accurate and timely roster entry into Rugby Xplorer (RX). Uphold and reinforce Life West’s reputation as a program committed to integrity, fair play, and respect for all stakeholders.
Support fundraising, marketing, and community engagement initiatives in conjunction with the College’s advancement and marketing teams.

Qualifications 

Registered USA Rugby coach membership (required)
USOPC certified Safe Sport Coach Certification (required)
Level 2 and Level 3 World Rugby Coach Certification (required)
Minimum of five (5) years of rugby-specific coaching experience
Advanced computer skills, with previous use of video/game coding software and performance analysis
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be reliable, dependable, and able to work independently
Familiarity with Neural Education Development (NED) Coaching Pedagogic Model and Methodology

Physical Demands

Able to work physically outdoors & indoors in a sports team environment.
Able to spend long hours walking, sitting, standing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Requires ability to communicate and exchange information clearly and concisely.
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate sports equipment.
