Volunteer Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

The Volunteer Coordinator role supports AFC’s Development activities, including fundraising events and volunteer engagement. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Development Strategy & Communications. This individual is primarily responsible for recruiting and managing volunteer opportunities, especially for all of AFC’s fundraising events (AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, World of Chocolate, Pride Fest, and Market Days.) This role will work an average of 10 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Activity Coordination

• Manage a database of volunteer opportunities for groups and individuals to support AFC’s fundraising events via CivicChamps;

• Host Volunteer Orientation for AIDS Run & Walk Chicago and World of Chocolate;

• Manage all onsite volunteer activities at AFC events;

• Develop and send regular e-communications community/volunteer contacts;

• Promptly respond to all relevant volunteer e-communications responses and inquiries;

• Oversee volunteer recruitment and all volunteer activities for AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, World of Chocolate, and other events as needed.

Other

• Assist the Senior Manager, Development Strategy & Communications with department-related matters as needed;

• Serve as an AFC ambassador;

• Protect organization's value and manage risk by keeping information confidential;

• Perform other duties as assigned.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS (EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors’ Degree AND two (2) years’ experience in customer service, volunteer management, event planning, community relations, event planning, public relations, or other nonprofit management/fundraising

OR 5 or more years’ experience in customer service, volunteer management, event planning, community relations, public relations, or other nonprofit management/fundraising.

Candidate must possess a solid working knowledge of fundraising event production, and relationship management.

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (for example, Word, Excel spreadsheets, and database entry).

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to respond to participant inquiries during and outside normal business hours including weekends.

Ability to travel and transport various presentation/training materials to outside event sites.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Raiser’s Edge and GoFundMe Pro software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands are representative of those found in a general office environment with the exceptions at offsite special events. Tasks involve the ability to exert medium physical effort in sedentary to light work, which will involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of {moderate weight, 30-50 pounds}.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is representative of that found in a general office environment. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Representation outside of the office will occur in outdoor and in-door event settings.
