Vice President, Field Medical Affairs

The Vice President, Field Medical Affairs is responsible for building, leading, and continuously developing DBV Technologies’ US Field Medical organization in support of Viaskin® Peanut launch readiness, scientific leadership in allergy and immunology, and long-term franchise growth. With a medical focus on food allergy, epicutaneous immunotherapy (EPIT™), and the underlying immunology of allergic disease, this executive will define the Field Medical strategy, not solely execute an established one, including MSL team design, territory deployment, insight-generation systems, and field metrics. The role leads leaders: it recruits, develops, coaches, and retains high-performing MSLs and Field Medical Directors across a geographically dispersed national organization.

Operating within the boundaries of compliant, non-promotional scientific exchange, the VP ensures the field team delivers credible, balanced scientific engagement with allergists, immunologists, pediatricians, dermatologists, and other specialty and primary care experts. The role partners closely with Medical Affairs Strategy, Medical Communications, Clinical Development, HEOR, Market Access, Commercial, Regulatory, Legal, and Compliance, and serves as the primary conduit for translating field-generated insights into medical and corporate strategy.

Key Responsibilities : 

Field Medical Strategy

• Define and own the US Field Medical strategy, operating model, and annual field medical plan aligned to the Global Medical Affairs Strategic Plan.

• Design MSL territory deployment, segmentation methodology, and resourcing models for pre-launch, launch, and post-launch phases.

• Establish field medical objectives, KPIs, and performance measurement frameworks; iterate based on launch phase and evidence needs.

• Lead scenario planning for field expansion aligned to label, geography, and lifecycle milestones.

Team Leadership and Organizational Build

• Build, lead, and retain a high-performing national MSL organization, including Field Medical Directors and regional leaders (leading leaders).

• Recruit, onboard, coach, and develop MSL talent; establish career pathing, competency models, and succession plans.

• Foster a culture of scientific excellence, compliance, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration across a geographically dispersed team.

• Manage departmental budget, field technology stack (CRM, insights platforms), and vendor relationships.

Allergy & Immunology Scientific Leadership (Medical Focus)

• Serve as a senior field-facing scientific leader in allergy and immunology, with deep fluency in food allergy (peanut allergy in particular), immune tolerance mechanisms, and epicutaneous immunotherapy (EPIT™).

• Ensure MSL scientific training and engagement materials reflect current allergy/immunology science, treatment guidelines (e.g., AAAAI, ACAAI, EAACI), and the evolving food allergy treatment landscape (OIT, biologics, avoidance-based management).

• Direct field medical engagement toward the allergy/immunology and pediatric allergy communities, including academic allergy centers, food allergy centers of excellence, and community allergists.

• Represent DBV field medical at allergy/immunology congresses and maintain personal scientific credibility with leading allergists and immunologists.

Scientific Exchange and External Expert Engagement

• Ensure best-in-class, compliant scientific exchange with external experts, treating clinicians, and healthcare systems.

• Personally engage senior external experts and academic thought leaders in partnership with Medical Affairs leadership.

• Oversee field medical support of congresses, medical advisory boards, and investigator-facing activities within Medical Affairs lanes.

• Coordinate with the commercial TLL organization to ensure clear separation of commercial and medical engagement rules.

Insight Generation and Strategic Intelligence

• Design and operate the field insight-generation system: capture, synthesis, and internal dissemination of medical insights.

• Translate field insights into actionable recommendations for Medical Affairs Strategy, Clinical Development, HEOR, and Executive Management.

• Contribute field perspective to evidence generation planning (Phase IV, IIS, RWE, registries) and publication and congress strategy.

Launch Readiness and Lifecycle Support

• Lead Field Medical launch readiness for Viaskin Peanut: scientific training, disease-state education capability, and territory activation.

• Support education-intensive adoption dynamics requiring meaningful physician and patient education and behavioral change.

• Prepare field capability for future indications and geographic expansion.

Compliance and Cross-Functional Leadership

• Ensure all field activities comply with applicable regulations, guidance, and company policies governing scientific exchange; no promotional activity, on-label commercial messaging, or inappropriate off-label discussion.

• Partner with Legal and Compliance to define, train, and monitor field rules of engagement.

Serve on Medical Affairs leadership team; represent Field Medical in launch governance, executive reviews, and Board-facing medical updates as needed.

Qualifications : 

Required

• MD, PharmD, PhD, or other advanced scientific/clinical degree.

• 15+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, with substantial experience in Medical Affairs.

• Significant Field Medical/MSL leadership experience.

• Demonstrated experience leading leaders and geographically dispersed teams.

• Experience managing a national or substantial regional Field Medical organization.

• Experience developing Field Medical strategy rather than solely executing an established strategy.

• Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing MSLs and Field Medical leaders.

• Strong experience engaging senior external experts and academic thought leaders.

• Demonstrated understanding of Medical Affairs compliance requirements and appropriate scientific exchange.

• Scientific fluency in allergy and/or immunology sufficient to establish credibility with academic allergists, immunologists, and pediatric specialists.

Strongly Preferred

• Previous VP, Head of Field Medical, National Field Medical Lead, or equivalent senior leadership experience.

• Experience building or substantially transforming an MSL organization.

• Pre-launch and launch experience in biotechnology or specialty pharmaceuticals.

• Experience supporting a first or early commercial launch within a biotechnology organization.

• Experience in allergy, immunology, pediatrics, dermatology, or another specialty-care environment relevant to DBV.

• Experience with products requiring significant physician and patient education and behavioral change.

• Experience working within a small-to-mid-sized biotechnology organization where leaders are expected to operate both strategically and hands-on.

Experience creating field metrics, insight-generation systems, segmentation methodologies, and territory deployment models.
