Sub Sector Lead – Power Systems / Power Generation and Networks

As the Sub Sector Lead – Power Systems / Power Generation and Networks, you will lead Worley’s global growth strategy for power systems, including power generation, transmission and distribution networks, grid infrastructure, energy storage, and integrated power solutions. The role drives value in defined core and growth markets while providing overall strategic direction for this sub-sector.

This role will champion the conventional power sub-sector across both our Global Operations (GO) and Major Projects and Programs (MPP) businesses to maximize the financial impact of Worley’s services related to power growth, including modular designs, digital twins, grid connections, substations, transmission and distribution, on-site and near-site generation, renewable integration, energy storage, and decarbonisation solutions.

This role can be located anywhere in the US.

Key Accountabilities

• Annual update of the sub-sector strategic plan in consultation with the Group Sector Lead and key stakeholders, and ongoing championing of the plan to ensure effective support for both current activities and long-term objectives.

• Lead sub-sector growth market activities and provide guidance and stakeholder support related to utilities, independent power producers, industrial power users, developers, OEMs, and large-load energy infrastructure customers to enable growth market objectives.

• Build and own strategic partner relationships that support Worley’s growth in the sub-sector, including broad and deep relationships with client executives, senior leaders, industry influencers, utilities, developers, OEMs, and strategic partners.

• Define and sponsor sub-sector-aligned growth markets, including the exploration, validation, and commercialization of value propositions, markets, and business models from consulting through full project delivery.

• Support Sales and Operations on strategic pursuits to ensure sub-sector and sector alignment and improve value and win rates for power and energy projects. Maintain key relationships in pursuit zipper plans and identify and advocate for the resources, capabilities, and delivery support required to achieve sub-sector growth objectives.

• Guide the Business Development team on where to look for opportunities. Explore and assess client segments and energy solution offerings.

• Provide sub-sector input to corporate and sector requirements such as Group Executive, Board, investor relations, communications, risk, and strategy activities.

• Work with the M&A team to develop strategy-aligned growth plans, including acquisition targets and business cases for Group Executive and Board support. Support due diligence activities on key acquisition targets.

• Champion innovation and the development of new solutions to market to help drive Worley’s growth in power, including renewable integration, energy storage, microgrids, and firming solutions.

• Ensure global power systems capability is collaborating effectively and fully leveraged in the development and delivery of service offerings to customers across regions, functions, sales teams, and delivery organizations.

Experience and Skills

Leadership & Strategic Capabilities

• P&L or business line leadership experience within a significant power, energy, or infrastructure business.

• Ability to develop and implement complex business strategies across power generation, networks, energy storage, and integrated energy infrastructure.

• Proven success partnering with and influencing client executives, senior management, utilities, developers, and other key industry stakeholders and strategic partners.

• Established network of senior client and industry contacts with the ability to strengthen customer relationships and provide strong customer advocacy.

• Ability to lead through influence and build alignment across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

• Strong communication and networking skills with the ability to drive collaboration across regions, functions, sales teams, and delivery organizations.

• Strategic mindset with the ability to understand industry demand drivers, grid constraints, and energy transition trends and adjust growth strategies accordingly.

Technical & Functional Expertise

• Deep industry and domain expertise in power and energy infrastructure with credibility among customers and key stakeholders and a strong understanding of Worley’s business.

• Solid understanding of international major project delivery, project governance, and site-based execution.

• Experience developing, selling, and delivering projects from initial client engagement through FEED and project delivery.

• Strong commercial acumen and experience with commercial contracting models relevant to power and energy infrastructure.

• Experience assessing and managing contractual risk, negotiating terms and conditions, and making disciplined business decisions to mitigate risk.

• Experience driving innovation and bringing new energy and decarbonisation solutions to market.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications preferred) or equivalent industry experience.

• Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer registration preferred.

• Advanced leadership training and/or business management qualification, with an MBA desirable.
