PPCCC is a trusted provider of high-quality, affordable reproductive health care along California’s Central Coast. Each year, PPCCC provides 28,000 people on the central coast with health care services; including sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, vasectomies, and safe and legal abortion care at our six health center locations. PPCCC also provides comprehensive sexuality education programs to help adults and teens make healthy decisions, prevent unintended pregnancies, and avoid sexually transmitted infection.

JOB SUMMARY
The Vasectomy Contract Provider will provide direct medical care to patients, especially with respect to vasectomy consultation, counseling, procedural care, and follow-up services. The Vasectomy Contract Provider will work in collaboration with all health care team members to provide quality reproductive health care to Planned Parenthood patients in accordance with PPCCC medical standards and guidelines. The Vasectomy Contract Provider evaluates patients seeking vasectomy services, performs vasectomy procedures within their scope of practice and privileges, manages procedural complications, provides post-procedure follow-up care, and participates in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Responsibilities also include patient education, preventive health counseling, documentation, and consultation services.

ESSENTIAL CLINICAL DUTIES:

• Provision and adherence to all Planned Parenthood California Central Coast (PPCCC) written medical protocols which incorporate all State, Federal, PPFA and PPCCC medical practice guidelines and which are approved by the Medical Director and President/CEO.
• Provide vasectomy consultations, informed consent counseling, and procedural services.
• Expertise in and ability to perform vasectomy procedures.
• Assess medical history and determine patient candidacy for vasectomy.
• Diagnose and manage common post-procedure complications within scope of practice.
• Provide post-operative instructions and follow-up care.
• Order, perform, and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing.
• Utilize the “SOAP” format for completing medical examination forms, including all appropriate medical findings and recommendations.
• Adhere to all written medical protocols, policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
• Demonstrate competency in, but not limited to, the following; peer review, quality assurance audits, and laboratory proficiency testing.
• Adhere to PPCCC policies and procedures concerning OSHA, CLIA, occurrence reporting, and all other staff and patient safety issues.
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of medications used in procedural and reproductive health services.
• Refer patients appropriately for specialty care when indicated.
• Participate in staff meetings, emergency drills, trainings, and continuing education activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

• Emergency response and basic life support measures.

Preferred competencies include:

• High-volume vasectomy service provision.
• Ultrasound utilization related to men's reproductive health.
• Provide direct medical care in vasectomy services in accordance with Planned Parenthood Federation of America Medical Standards and Guidelines and PPCCC clinical protocols and operating procedures.
• Able to manage vasectomy complications.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

• Experience performing vasectomy procedures.
• Ability to relate to patients of all genders with diverse backgrounds in a professional and competent manner.
• Ability to demonstrate empathy to patients accessing sensitive health care services.
• Must be able to function independently and with minimal supervision.

• Ability to function comfortably in protocol-based practice.
• Current CA driver’s license and access to reliable transportation are necessary; willingness and ability to travel within service area required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

One of the following:

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with unrestricted California license.
• Board-certified or board-eligible Family Medicine physician, Urologist, or other appropriately credentialed physician with vasectomy privileges, with a minimum of three years of experience.
• Advanced Practice Clinician credentialed and privileged to perform vasectomy procedures under applicable state laws and organizational policies.

And

• Current DEA Registration,
• Current CPR (BLS) certification.
• Experience with NextGen Practice Management Application is desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

English-Spanish bilingual skills desirable.

Planned Parenthood California Central Coast’s (PPCCC’s) compensation philosophy supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Each position has a salary based on market value and the organization’s pay levels.  Starting pay is reviewed upon contract agreement.
