GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION
This is a paid internship opportunity for someone who brings meaningful experience in urban agriculture, community engagement, education, food justice, or related work and is looking to deepen that experience in a mission-driven setting. We welcome candidates whose experience has been gained through professional roles, community-based work, volunteering, organizing, farming, or other hands-on settings.

This opportunity is well suited for someone who is ready to bring their experience forward, contribute meaningfully from day one, and continue growing through hands-on, community-centered work.

The Urban Farm Facilitator for Peace by Piece New Orleans will work at the Hollygrove Community Garden to maintain and expand garden spaces in the neighborhood. This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of our urban farm/community garden sites in Hollygrove, New Orleans. This is a hands-on role focused on growing food, maintaining farm systems, and supporting small-scale production and distribution. This role is ideal for someone who wants to deepen their experience in urban agriculture while contributing to a mission-driven organization.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Farm Operations
• Manage watering, planting, cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
• Monitor and manage irrigation, compost, pests, and soil health using regenerative farming practices.
• Maintain farm infrastructure, tools, and equipment.
• Coordinate harvest, packing, and distribution for community members.
• Collecting and maintaining compost pile.
• Ensure safe, clean, and compliant farm operations.

 Team Support Coordination

• Work cooperatively with growers, community members and volunteers.
• Coordinate daily farm tasks and ensure work is completed effectively.
• Participate in weekly team meetings and planning.
• Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
• Performing other duties as needed such as painting, digging, mowing, building, and contributing to the overall maintenance of the garden.

 Community Engagement

• Support farm tours and volunteer days.
• Assist with outreach and distribution of food on and off site.
• Engage respectfully with a diverse group of residents.

 Other

• Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
• Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

 SUPERVISORY / MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

 MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum one year of experience in organic farming required. Additional experience in farm management preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
• Ability to work in outdoor garden spaces on multiple sites.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Youth and young adults interested in gardening, food security and climate justice are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and to travel, as required.
• Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
• Experience with standard Microsoft Office and related technology.
• Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.

 COMPENSATION
The AFSC offers a competitive Total Rewards package.  This position is Salary Family: Intern Job Code Intern Minimum Hourly Rate $20. There are no medical, dental, life insurance benefits, short term or long term insurance benefits with this position.  AFSC does participate in unemployment, worker’s compensation, and social security.
