Job Description

Seneca develops customized coverage solutions for difficult-to-place risks, complex commercial exposures, and specialized market needs. Seneca combines technology and automation with a human underwriting approach to deliver speed, access to information and focused, hands-on attention. Summary:

Responsible for review and analysis of underwriting data to build and maintain a profitable book of business within Seneca division under minimal supervision. Manages agency relationships through continued customer service and marketing activities.  Actively contributes as a technical expert in both underwriting activities and department-specific industry knowledge.  May mentor less experienced underwriters to build organizational value.  Collaborates with colleagues to achieve departmental goals.

Responsibilities:

• Meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals determined by the department.
• Makes independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintains proper file documentation.
• Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers. Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the department.
• Develops awareness of market trends and identifies emerging threats to the department.
• Has an in-depth knowledge of department products and services, both admitted and non-admitted business.
• Can clearly articulate the department’s value proposition.
• Participates in training and initiatives. May participate in projects.
• Travel required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• 4 plus years of property & casualty underwriting experience desired with a focus on commercial Inland Marine business preferred.  Familiarity with Builders' Risk, Motor Cargo, Mid-term Builders' Risk, Contractors Equipment, Auto PD.
• Possesses strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a significant renewal book.
• Proficient in MS Office suite.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Possesses underwriting and industry designations applicable to area of specialization.
• Established relationships with wholesale and retail community in mid-West highly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent, CRIS, AMIM, or CPCU preferred.
• Will abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management controls.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $87,000 to a maximum of $136,500. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
