Board of Directors Job Description
The Board of Directors for Southeast Affordable Housing Administration (SAHA) is comprised of dedicated, mission-oriented individuals who are deeply committed to the organization’s vision and goals. By overseeing operations and engaging in long-term strategy development, board members play an indispensable role in guiding SAHA towards achieving its highest potential.

General Duties:
Informed Participation: Board members must remain well-informed about SAHA’s operations and actively engage in discussions regarding policy, financial matters, program development, personnel issues, and advocacy efforts.
Meeting Attendance and Preparation: Preparing for and attending board meetings is mandatory. Members should review reports and materials in advance to facilitate meaningful contributions during discussions.
Team Collaboration: Board members are expected to work cohesively as a unified team, supporting one another and respecting the decisions made by the board as a whole.
Fiduciary Duty: Members must demonstrate loyalty and a strong commitment to the organization’s interests, exercising sound judgment in all related decisions.
Budget Approval: Members are responsible for approving the annual budget and continuously monitoring financial performance to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Policy Adherence: Upholding the bylaws, conflict of interest, code of conduct, and other governing policies is non-negotiable to maintain board integrity and organizational transparency.
Operational Policy Management: Members should engage in establishing, reviewing, and monitoring policies that support core operational practices, including financial management and human resource strategies.
Involvement: Actively participating in ongoing activities, initiatives, and fundraising efforts as necessary.
Recruitment of Board Members: Board members assist leadership in recruiting new board members who bring diversity and expertise to the table.

Treasurer, Southeast Affordable Housing Administration (SAHA)
The Treasurer provides financial leadership for SAHA by overseeing financial operations, supporting transparency and accountability, and helping the Board fulfill its fiscal stewardship responsibilities. In this role, the Treasurer offers clear financial insight to guide informed decisions, strengthen long-term sustainability, and advance SAHA’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance oversight. Ensure that tax-related documents, legal forms, and other required filings are completed accurately and on time. Stay informed of applicable regulatory requirements and help maintain SAHA’s tax-exempt status.
Strategic financial guidance. Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director by providing financial insight, analysis, and recommendations that support sound decision-making, strategic planning, and organizational sustainability.
Finance Committee leadership. Lead the Finance Committee in reviewing financial priorities, developing policies and procedures, and supporting practices that protect SAHA’s financial health and align with its mission and goals.
Financial oversight and monitoring. Work with financial, accounting, legal, and auditing professionals to help the Board understand and meet its financial responsibilities. Monitor financial performance, identify emerging concerns, and support timely resolution of financial issues.
Budget development. Partner with the Executive Director to develop the annual budget and present it to the Board for review, discussion, and approval.
Financial statement review. Coordinate with the organization’s accountants and financial partners to review monthly financial statements for accuracy and completeness. Interpret financial data for the Board and respond to questions to promote a shared understanding of SAHA’s financial position.
Qualifications for Effective Financial Stewardship
Organizational skill and integrity. Demonstrates strong organizational abilities and a commitment to honest, transparent, and accountable financial practices.
Financial knowledge. Possesses a solid understanding of financial management principles, accounting practices, and nonprofit regulatory requirements.
Relevant experience or education. Brings experience in finance or accounting, or has academic qualifications that support effective oversight of nonprofit financial management.
Proficiency with financial tools. Is familiar with accounting software, spreadsheet applications, and nonprofit reporting systems needed to manage financial information and reporting requirements efficiently.
