About the Teen & Family Wellness Center 

The Caminar Teen & Family Wellness Center in Palo Alto provides accessible, youth-centered mental health services designed specifically for adolescents and their families. The Center serves teens ages 12–17 and provides a safe, welcoming environment where young people can feel heard, supported in their mental health and identity, and empowered to grow. 

Services are designed around each teen’s individual needs and may include individual therapy, family counseling, comprehensive assessment and treatment planning, and group therapy. Care may be provided in person, through telehealth, or through a hybrid model, with flexible scheduling that includes late-afternoon and evening appointments to accommodate school and family schedules. 

Position Summary: The Mental Health Clinician provides individual and family mental health services to adolescents ages 12–17 at the Teen & Family Wellness Center. Under the supervision of the Clinical Program Manager, the Clinician will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, individual therapy, family therapy, crisis intervention, and coordination of care. 

The Clinician will use a youth-centered, strengths-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach, partnering with teens and their families to develop treatment goals that reflect the young person’s voice, values, strengths, and needs. 

This position is ideal for a clinician who enjoys working with adolescents and families and is passionate about creating an accessible, affirming, and engaging mental health environment for young people.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

Provide individual, group and family therapy to adolescents ages 12–17 experiencing a range of mental health and emotional concerns. 

Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and clinical evaluations. 

Develop collaborative treatment plans with teens that reflect their goals, strengths, values, and identified needs. 

Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions appropriate to adolescents and families. 

Provide family counseling and support focused on healthy communication, trust, boundaries, and strengthening family relationships. 

Provide crisis intervention and respond appropriately to changes in a client’s mental health or level of risk. 

Assess client needs and facilitate appropriate transitions to higher or lower levels of care when clinically indicated. 

Address a range of adolescent mental health concerns, which may include anxiety, depression, trauma, identity development, family conflict, interpersonal boundaries, bullying, victimization, aggression, and body-image concerns. 

Engage teens in treatment using developmentally appropriate communication and therapeutic techniques. 

Partner with parents and caregivers, with appropriate consideration of the teen’s consent, confidentiality, and clinical needs. 

Collaborate with other Caminar staff and community providers to coordinate care and support continuity of services. 

Refer teens and families to community resources and supportive services as appropriate. 

Participate in clinical consultation, individual supervision, team meetings, and program meetings. 

Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough clinical documentation in accordance with applicable requirements and Caminar standards. 

Provide services through in-person, telehealth, and/or hybrid modalities as appropriate. 

Maintain flexibility to provide services during late-afternoon and evening hours to accommodate school and family schedules. 

Participate in the development and delivery of group therapy programming as the Teen & Family Wellness Center expands its services. 

Other duties may be assigned. 

Qualifications & Skills: Qualifications & Skills 

Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or a related clinical field. 

California BBS registered BBS licensure as LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC. 

Experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and/or families strongly preferred. 

Experience working with adolescents ages 12–17 preferred. 

Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic skills. 

Knowledge of evidence-based approaches for adolescent mental health. 

Experience with trauma-informed and strengths-based care preferred. 

Ability to build trusting therapeutic relationships with teens and engage families appropriately in treatment. 

Strong understanding of adolescent development and the social, emotional, and mental health challenges facing youth. 

Ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and personal backgrounds. 

Culturally responsive and affirming approach to working with youth and families. 

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to complete clinical documentation and communicate effectively with clients, families, and professionals. 

Ability to use standard office and clinical software and develop competency in specialized clinical systems as needed. 

Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

Position Requirements:

Physical: Occasionally required to push/pull objects up to 50 lbs., and to lift/carry objects up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, etc. Must be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods. 

Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and plans. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with residents and staff, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and understand/be understood using the English language. 

Cognitive: Frequently required to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption. Must be able to attend a task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time. Frequently required to understand and relate to specific ideas, several at a time. Must be able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over a period of several days. 

Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed (residential/office) environments. Occasional exposure to toxins and poisonous substances, dust, and loud noises. 

Equipment: Frequently required to use a computer, phone, and fax machine. 

Essential Requirements:

Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance, as required by Title XXII, other licensing regulations, and Caminar practices. 

This position may require limited, occasional, or frequent driving.  If required, a valid California driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle, and current personal auto insurance is required by law.  In addition, an MVR sufficient to obtain and maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are all essential job requirements. 

Must be able to pass post offer, pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Community Care Licensing regulations and/or agency policies. 

If applicable, a personal cell phone with reliable service and a data plan to use for business purposes. 

May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
