Theater Dance Instructor - Part-Time Leave Coverage

Walnut Hill School for the Arts has an immediate opening for a part-time leave coverage Theater Dance Instructor in the Theater department. 

The ideal candidate has expertise in teaching jazz, tap, ballet and Laban Movement. Additionally, there may be an opportunity to choreograph one production during the school year. In addition to academic and/or professional training, we also seek individuals who have had experience as performers. This is a part-time leave coverage position starting immediately and potentially continuing for the duration of the first semester (through December). The duration will be determined as the semester progresses.

Compensation: $565.00 per week

Teaching & Department Duties

• Teach the assigned number of beginning through advanced courses in dance and movement; Classes meet Mondays & Wednesdays (2 classes per day); Tuesdays & Thursdays (1 class per day);

• Prepare lessons and develop curriculum that reflects the diverse educational and cultural backgrounds of the student body; teach, lead, and guide students and promote an open and safe classroom space;

• Collaborate with other members of the Theater department;

• Attend weekly department meetings; and 

• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• BFA in Musical Theater/Dance or equivalent experience required;

• 3+ years of experience teaching and choreographing musical theater dance styles;

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience teaching and choreographing a wide range of dance and musical theater styles, with versatility across different genres, traditions, and performance contexts.

• Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe, brave, and inclusive community;

• Possess cultural competence in working with diverse populations and commitment to learning about and practicing anti-racist work;

• Comfort with technology and willingness to adopt new technologies as needed;  

• Excellent written and oral communication skills along with strong collaboration and team-oriented working and leadership skills;

• Share an educational and artistic vision that aligns with the core principles and values of Walnut Hill; and

• Ability to balance a pursuit of academic, artistic, and institutional excellence with compassion and nurture for each individual.

Physical Demands

Physical demands include dexterity for mechanical, physical  and supply operation including but not limited to, writing, typing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, office machinery, copy machine, fax machine, and printers. Walking, ascending/descending stairs, stooping, bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling, dancing, moving, stretching, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common. Ability to demonstrate applicable dance and theater technique is required.
