TES Dining Technician

Student Affairs - Property Management at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for a TES Dining Technicain!  If you take pride in keeping spaces clean and well-maintained, this role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact every day! Under direct supervision, the TES Dining Technician assists Dining Equipment Specialists, HVACR personnel, and other skilled trades employees with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and relocation of commercial kitchen equipment and associated building systems within University dining facilities. Performs routine and basic maintenance tasks while developing knowledge of food-service equipment, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general facility systems.

About TES:Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

Responsibilities

• Assists with scheduled preventive maintenance and routine inspections of commercial cooking, food-preparation, warewashing, refrigeration, and ice-making equipment.
• Assists higher-level technicians with troubleshooting and repair of ovens, steamers, fryers, griddles, mixers, slicers, grinders, dish machines,disposals, coolers, freezers, ice machines, and similar equipment.
• Performs routine assigned maintenance such as cleaning coils, replacing filters and belts, lubricating components, checking fasteners, and cleaning accessible equipment parts.
• Assists with installation, startup, removal, relocation, assembly, and operational testing of commercial kitchen and refrigeration equipment.
• Assists with basic plumbing repairs involving faucets, sinks, drains, disposals, valves, water connections, and related fixtures.
• Assists with basic electrical and control tasks involving lighting components, switches, receptacles, cords, plugs, equipment controls, fan motors, thermostats, and sensors within the employee's training and authorization.
• Assists with routine HVAC and ventilation maintenance, including filter changes, coil cleaning, belt replacement, and visual inspections.
• Performs basic general maintenance including minor carpentry, painting, furniture repair, hardware replacement, cleaning, and work-area restoration.
• Retrieves parts and materials, maintains tools and work areas, and supports inventory and work-order documentation.
• Follows lockout/tagout, PPE, food-service sanitation, and other applicable safety requirements.
• Reports equipment status and deficiencies to the assigned specialist or supervisor and does not independently perform work beyond training, certification, or authorization.
• Assists with urgent or after-hours maintenance response when assigned.

Actual assignments may differ based on departmental needs. Other similar duties may be assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.  There are no supervisiry responsibilities assigned to this position.

Qualifications

• Degree: High School Diploma or GED

License/Certifications: 

• Valid In-State Drivers Liscence as required by University policy - Required
• EPA Section 608 Certification: Appropriate certification for refrigerant-related assignments - Desired

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of general building maintenance and mechanical systems
• Ability to learn commercial food-service equipment operation and maintenance
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and basic test equipment under direction
• Ability to follow instructions, service manuals, safety procedures, and work orders
• Ability to recognize unsafe or abnormal equipment conditions and promptly report them
• Ability to perform basic math, maintain simple records, and communicate professionally
• Ability to work as part of a team during active dining operations
