Temporary Field Interviewer - Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design

The Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design Department is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Field Interviewer. Assistance with research projects such as the National Marine Sanctuary (NMS) Visitor Use Counting/Monitoring Program (NMS-Count) partnered with the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. New research projects can come with the development of different research proposals.

The Field Interviewer position will be essential to the completion of NMS-Count effort with the NMSF across the USA. The Field Interviewer will conduct face-to-face interviews with coastal visitors as they exit recreation sites.  Interviewers will travel to a variety of general recreation sites.  Shifts vary between morning, afternoon and evening hours and very often occur on weekend days. Assignment location and lengths may vary.

What You'll Do

• Conducting recreation surveys on lands adjacent to national marine sanctuary waters in a friendly and respectful manner.  
• Checking schedule on the Google Drive weekly/daily basis and planning out survey site drive times and location with GPS and maps. 
• Set up interviewing sites properly to ensure safety of self and visitors. 
• Download data from tablets and report status to field supervisor. 
• Filling out and keeping track of surveys and daily counts in a neat, orderly fashion. 
• Compiling weekly reports for field supervisor about site use levels, recreation use and weather conditions at each assigned surveying site.  
• Adhering to strict WVU data collection policies and guidelines including proper dress, displaying of safety signage, etc. 
• Ability to drive long distances over a variety of road surfaces during early morning and early evening hours. 
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision from field management at all times.

Pay Grade: 7
Length of Assignment: up to 8.5 Months based on assignment 
Work Hours: 10 - 30 Hours per week based on assignment

Location, Travel, and Assignment Information

• Location: Assignment locations vary and may be located throughout the United States
• Field Interviewers mush be able to travel and work at assigned sites
• Depending on the assignment, candidates may be required to reside in the area or independently arrange transportation and housing.
• Candidates should be comfortable traveling between multiple locations recreation sites. Candidates will receive mileage reimbursement for work travel.
• Specific assignment details, including location and anticipated duration, will be communicated during the recruitment process.

• Highschool diploma or GED
• Zero to six (0 - 6) months of preferred experience involving:
  • Previous in-field data collection experience on state, federal or municipal lands
  • Working independently and interacting with the public
  • Traveling and participating in local recreation
• Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
