Job Description

As part of the Architecture Library team, coordinates the daily operations of the Architecture Library, a branch of the Hesburgh Libraries, in support of teaching and research activities for the University. Ensures that the library is welcoming, well-organized, and efficiently serving faculty, students, and visitors. Provides expertise with circulation services, course reserve, and resource delivery services. Offers point-of-use instruction and addresses basic technology problems to facilitate the use of electronic products and services.

This is a hands-on role that requires flexibility, problem-solving skills, and the ability to step in wherever needed to maintain smooth operations

** Daily schedule for this position is 8:45am-12:45pm Monday through Friday.  Scheduling flexibility may be required. No weekends required.

Key Responsibilities and Library Operations

• Opens and/or closes the Architecture Library following established procedures.
• Ensures a safe, clean facility and report issues promptly.
• Ensures study areas, computer stations, and common spaces are tidy and ready for use.

Student Worker Coordination

• Assists with the daily activities of student employees, including assigning tasks and monitoring attendance.
• Coordinates and adjusts student worker schedules to ensure coverage at service points.
• Serves as backup staff for shifts when a student worker is unavailable.

Course Reserves & Circulation Services

• Processes requests for electronic and print course reserves, including intake, preparation, and shelving of materials.
• Assists faculty and students with checking in and out of reserve items.
• Answers user questions (faculty, staff, and students) and provides assistance; escalates complex issues to appropriate library staff as necessary.
• Tracks and maintains accurate circulation records to ensure timely returns and availability of materials.

Technology & Facilities Support

• Provides basic troubleshooting for library computer hardware and electronic resources, and escalates issues to Library staff when needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma, and some college coursework.
• Demonstrated organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently. 
• Excellent communication skills with ability to answer, assist, and escalate user questions.
• Prior library experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Academic library experience

Work Environment

The position involves working at a circulation/service desk, moving materials, light lifting (up to 25 lbs), and periods of sitting, walking, and standing.  

Additional Information

Compensation: $17.50/hour
