Title: AI Cypress Automation QA Engineer (BDD/Gherkin)

• Mission: To build, scale, and maintain front-end test automation for React-based applications using Cypress with a BDD/Gherkin workflow. Integrate tests into CI/CD, reduce flakiness, and provide high-signal quality feedback for releases. 
• Primary focus: React UI automation (E2E and component testing) with Cypress. 
• API testing: Yes. Validate REST APIs consumed by the frontend using Cypress (cy.request) and/or Postman/MSW. Light contract testing is a plus. 

Top Responsibilities 

• Design, implement, and maintain Cypress automation for React apps (TypeScript), covering E2E, integration, and component tests. 
• Author Gherkin feature files and step definitions; align tests with product acceptance criteria and living documentation. 
• Build and evolve the automation framework: project structure, custom commands, fixtures/test data, environment configuration, stable selectors, and utilities. 
• Integrate automation into CI/CD (parallelization, retries, test dashboards, flaky test detection, reporting). 
• Perform API testing for frontend-consumed endpoints REST, including authentication flows, data setup/cleanup, and error handling. 
• Collaborate with developers, QA, and product to refine testability, review PRs, triage failures, and drive root cause analysis. 
• Establish and enforce best practices (selector strategy, intercept/mocking, accessibility checks, performance smoke, cross-browser runs). 
• Track coverage and risk; propose automation strategies to maximize impact while minimizing maintenance. 

Must-have qualifications 

• 3–5+ years in QA automation with React/JavaScript/TypeScript; 2+ years hands-on with Cypress (v10+), including component and E2E testing. 
• Strong experience testing React applications (SPAs or Next.js) and familiarity with common patterns (hooks, state management, routing). 
• Proven BDD/Gherkin experience with Cypress cucumber preprocessor (e.g., @badeball/cypress-cucumber-preprocessor), writing clear feature files and maintainable step definitions. 
• API testing for REST/GraphQL: cy.request, authentication (OAuth/OIDC/JWT), request/response validation, Postman/Newman. 
• CI/CD pipeline integration (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI) with test parallelization, artifacts, and reporting. 
• Solid understanding of test design techniques (boundary, equivalence, negative/state-based testing) and strategies to reduce flakiness. 
• Expertise in Cypress intercept/mocking, stubs, fixtures; network conditioning and time controls. 
• Git proficiency and code review experience; Agile/Scrum collaboration. 

Nice-to-have skills 

• React Testing Library, Jest/, vitest, and Cypress Testing Library; MSW for network mocking. 
• Accessibility testing (axe-core) and basic performance checks (Lighthouse). 
• Cross-browser Cypress runs (Chrome/Firefox) and containerized test execution. 
• Experience with micro-frontends or Storybook-driven component testing.
