Tech Production Fellow

Business Insider is hiring a production fellow to join our Tech team.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in how a digital newsroom operates. They produce real work and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week. Fellows are required to come into our New York or San Francisco offices three times a week.

The Role & Team:

We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented Tech Production Fellow to support our editorial Tech team. Our reporters cover the artificial intelligence boom, major tech companies, startups, venture capital, and the founders and investors shaping the future—and hold them accountable.

This is an early-career production role, not a reporting position. The fellow will help our team package and promote journalism from breaking news to features to lists, while learning the workflows behind a fast-moving digital newsroom. You will work closely with reporters and editors, gaining exposure to how stories move from assignment to publication and how we serve readers across platforms.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about tech news and journalism, comfortable juggling multiple tasks, and eager to contribute to a collaborative, supportive team.

This role is based in our SF office, with an in-office expectation of three days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and format stories in Business Insider’s content-management system so that they are ready for an editor to publish, ensuring headlines, links, images, captions, metadata, and other publishing details are accurate.
• Assist with the production of the VC newsletter, including building editions, testing links, and maintaining newsletter calendars.
• Maintain updates to editorial lists and other recurring formats, such as the Rising Stars of VC.
• Support the tech team’s daily administrative and production needs
• Help prepare stories for publication by gathering assets, checking formatting, and flagging errors or missing elements to editors.
• Learn and follow Business Insider’s editorial, style, legal, and production standards.
• Shadow reporters and editors to learn how a high-performing digital newsroom develops, edits, publishes, and promotes journalism.

The Ideal Candidate

• Is a self-starter who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable, especially in a fast-paced working environment.
• Has a strong interest in technology, business, media, or journalism.
• Can manage multiple assignments, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
• Has strong written communication and proofreading skills.
• Is comfortable and flexible with learning new digital tools and systems.

Salary & Benefits:

• Fellows are paid $23 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
• PTO and paid holidays
• Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment
