Teaching Professor, Chemistry

OVERVIEW

The Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) invites applications for a full-time, Teaching Professor faculty position in Introductory Chemistry starting September 1, 2027. Teaching Professor faculty at the University of St. Thomas are teaching specialists whose responsibilities are in the areas of teaching and other student-centered activities and service.  Teaching Professor appointments are non-tenure track appoints that are subject to annual renewals for committed faculty with a passion for teaching and service.

The successful candidate will teach approximately 7 courses (lecture and laboratory) per year in introductory chemistry for majors and non-majors, with additional responsibilities associated with coordinating the general chemistry program and other departmental service. A significant part of the teaching duties will include introductory nursing chemistry and/or chemistry for engineering lectures and labs. Additional student-centered responsibilities include working with other faculty on design and implementation of new laboratory exercises, publishing lab manuals, organizing and leading meetings of instructors teaching in introductory chemistry, and performing curricular assessment.

The successful candidate will have experience with scientific publications and conference presentations, demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and strong organizational and interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with the introductory chemistry laboratory team and the department as a whole.

The University of St. Thomas Chemistry Department is ACS-accredited, consisting of fourteen full-time faculty (11 tenured or tenure-track and 3 teaching/clinical), plus support staff, working exclusively with undergraduates. Salary and Benefits

The University of St. Thomas offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits program, which includes:

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000.

The University of St. Thomas has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the university may pay this position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with a Ph.D. (U.S. or foreign equivalent degree) in chemistry or biochemistry are strongly preferred, but related disciplines may be considered. ABD nearing completion of the Ph.D. may also be considered, with initial appointment at the rank of instructor. A demonstrated interest in teaching is required.
