SW: Housing Office Worker

The Housing Office seeks an organized and hospitable student worker to care for the basic needs of the office. The hours would be 10-15 hours.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

• Answering the phone
• Responding to inquiries about long-term and guest housing as well as parking
• Preparing keys and connecting with guests about pick up times
• Keeping files up-to-date and organized
• Providing necessary information about living in the community; i.e., where laundry is, how to sign up for a commuter locker, etc.
• Assisting on projects such as creation of marketing materials, maintenance of online applications and website, basic communications with students, etc.
• Work closely with director to assist in the organization of housing summer housing for groups.
• Work closely with director to assist in the organization of scheduling events for campus and external groups.
• Other projects as assigned.

The ideal candidate would:

• Have experience working with Microsoft Office (especially Microsoft Excel) and Google Docs
• Have the ability to learn new online programs and would ideally bring some experience of online programs to the position
• Have previous experience working in an office
• Have previous experience working in student housing, residence life and/or events planning
• Be organized, flexible, and an excellent communicator
• Have the ability to work with a diverse population of students
• Be passionate about serving the Garrett community

• Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, crawl, safely climb a step ladder up to 6 feet, and lift/move up to 20 pounds.  Must be able to have repetitive wrist hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer. Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment. The individual will regularly be required to communicate professionally in person, over the phone, and through email; and to sit, type, and stare at a computer monitor for prolonged periods.  
• Work environment: Employee occasionally may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time, but work is primarily performed indoors. Noise levels in the work environment are usually minimal with occasional exposure to moderate noise levels.
