Job Description
SUMMARY: The CFI Reserve is responsible for providing flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with FAA regulations and University standards. This position supports student success by delivering quality instruction, promoting a culture of safety, maintaining accurate training documentation, and supporting the operational needs of Flight Operations.
This is an as-needed reserve position with no guarantee of hours, shifts, or ongoing work. Scheduling is based on Flight Operations' needs and student demand.
The CFI Reserve must uphold the philosophy and mission of the University while instilling a positive and progressive attitude in all employees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS include but are not limited to the following:
COMPLIANCE:
- Responsible for compliance with all local, state, accreditation, FAA, and federal regulations.
- Ensure completeness, accuracy, and security of campus files, documents and reports.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, procedures, Training Course Outlines (TCOs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
- Responsible for complete and accurate timekeeping.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Conduct all duties and responsibilities ethically and professionally
• Promote and maintain a culture of safety in all training activities
• Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, University policies, approved Training Course Outlines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Provide flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with approved training curricula and lesson objectives
• Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback
• Prepare students for stage checks, practical exams, and certification milestones
• Ensure accurate training records, lesson documentation, endorsements, and reports
• Record lesson notes and training progress in approved University systems
• Report and manage student attendance as required
• Motivate students to achieve training goals and course objectives
• Maintain required certificates, ratings, medical qualifications, and instructor currency requirements
• Attend meetings, training events, and standardization activities as required
• Report safety concerns through the University Safety Management System (SMS)
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

The CFI Reserve must possess a valid FAA Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) Certificate and a current FAA Medical Certificate as required for instructional duties. The incumbent must maintain all FAA and University qualifications and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development within Flight Operations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Flight instructor certificate.
