About the Role

Coleman Company, Inc. is seeking a curious, driven, and highly motivated Survey Intern to join our Surveying department in Savannah, GA for Summer 2027. This role is built for a student who wants to learn land surveying and has aspirations on becoming a professional land surveyor. 

You will split your time between our field crews and our survey office, where you will see the complete life of a survey: setting up on a site, collecting the data, and then reducing those field notes into the plat or topographic survey. You will work across a range of survey types: boundary and topographic surveys, as-built and tree surveys, construction staking, and subdivision plats; supporting single-family residential, multifamily, commercial, industrial, and municipal public works projects. You will also gain hands-on exposure to our UAS (drone) survey program, from flight planning and ground control to turning aerial imagery into usable survey deliverables.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a student currently enrolled in a land surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or related technical program. Field surveying is physical, outdoor, so we are seeking someone who is okay with working in coastal Georgia weather conditions. Prior surveying experience is not required. A willingness to ask good questions, carry equipment, take ownership of assignments, and check your own work is the Coleman way.

Key Responsibilities

In the Field

Set up and operate survey equipment: total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and levels, under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief or licensed land surveyor.
Collect, record, and organize accurate field data, and perform basic field measurements and calculations.
Assist with construction staking and site layout.
Support UAS (drone) survey missions, including flight planning, setting ground control, and target placement.
Maintain field equipment and vehicles, clear obstructions from survey lines, and follow all safety standards and field protocols.

In the Office

Process and reduce survey field data into accurate digital deliverables, including the supporting mathematical and trigonometric computations.
Assist in preparing plats, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, tree surveys, and technical exhibits using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
Assist with processing drone imagery into point clouds and surfaces
Review and analyze survey data for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness, coordinating with field crews, engineers, and project managers to stay on schedule.
Research deeds, recorded plats, and public records to support boundary research and determinations, applying Georgia surveying standards and regulations.

Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related technical program at an accredited institution (required).
Genuine interest in land surveying as a career, including eventual professional licensure.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical problem-solving.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, with the stamina to lift equipment, walk long distances, and work on uneven terrain.
Able to follow direction as part of a field crew and manage assignments independently in the office.
Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Valid driver's license required.
