Summer Associate - Banking Operations

Purpose: Five Star Bank’s Summer Associate Program is designed to develop the next generation of financial services professionals to help us advance our vision of being an independent, high-performing community bank. As a Banking Operations Summer Associate, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting the bank’s core operational functions, including deposit operations, payment processing, account servicing, and quality control. You will support the Operations team to help ensure transactions are processed accurately, internal service levels are met, and regulatory standards are upheld—all of which are essential to delivering a strong customer experience.   

Essential Functions:

• Support day-to-day banking operations, including tasks related to deposit operations, item processing, and account maintenance
• Assist with reconciling transactions, processing exceptions, and performing quality checks
• Help research and resolve internal inquiries related to transaction activity and account servicing
• Contribute to the review and enhancement of standard operating procedures across multiple operational functions
• Participate in the processing and verification of ACH transactions, check clearing, stop payments, and returned items
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure service and compliance standards are consistently met
• Assist with operational reporting, documentation, and process involvement initiatives

What We’re Looking For: 

• Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Analytics, or a related field, with junior-level standing or higher preferred. 
• Located at our Corporate HQ in Warsaw, NY
• Candidates must be available to work a hybrid work model, 40 hours per week for the duration of the program starting in June 
• Occasional travel within corporate footprint (Buffalo and Rochester) will also be required
• At least 1 year in one or more club(s), volunteerism efforts, or other activities outside of the classroom 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling is a plus
• Interest in banking and deposit operations
• Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and attention to detail
• Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience in every interaction with internal customers, associates, and stakeholders. Incorporate the high-performance behaviors of teamwork, leading by example and serve in every facet of work.

The expected rate of pay for this position is shown above.   Compensation offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education and, where applicable, licenses or certifications obtained.   Market and organizational factors are also considered.  In addition to your base rate of pay and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates may be eligible to receive cash or equity-based incentives based on the role and performance.
