Internship Location, Availability, and Hours

• This internship runs Monday, June 7, through Wednesday, August 11, 2027.
• Internship hours are M-Th, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM out of our office in Carmel, IN with a one-hour lunch break.
• Interns will not work the week of the Independence Day holiday (July 5-9, 2027).

Core Responsibilities

As an intern, you will gain hands-on exposure to both wealth management and retirement plan advisory services. Beyond shadowing our experienced team, you will take on real projects designed to build your skills and deepen your understanding of the business. This is a learning-focused internship built around three goals: learn everything you can from the work and our team, grow by gaining new skills and knowledge, and contribute to work that genuinely matters. You will be supported throughout by dedicated mentors and regular one-on-one check-ins.

Retirement Team Responsibilities

• Shadow and support retirement team members during client interactions and internal processes.
• Assist team members in preparing for client meetings, including enrollment sessions, financial wellness workshops and education sessions, and committee meetings.
• Observe how team members manage client accounts, address client needs, and proactively solve day-to-day concerns.

Wealth Management Team Responsibilities

• Shadow wealth management team members during client meetings, including retirement readiness sessions and individual financial planning discussions.
• Learn how to utilize financial planning tools to add value for clients, identify additional opportunities, and help retain client relationships.
• Provide support for account administration and maintenance under team guidance.

General Responsibilities

• Learn to implement resources and technology effectively to assist team members in resolving client concerns.
• Support the team in maintaining a consistent, high-quality client experience.
• Contribute to projects that aim to strengthen client relationships and promote brand visibility in the marketplace.
• Gain exposure to insurance roles and offerings in partnership with our sister company, Shepherd Insurance.

Signature Projects & Development

Our internship is intentionally learning-focused, with development opportunities and mentorship built in throughout the summer. In addition to day-to-day exposure, you will:

• Build presentation and public speaking skills through dedicated coaching, culminating in a 401(k) Enrollment Presentation delivered to our Retirement Team.
• Create a mock financial plan using our planning software and present your recommendations to our Wealth Management team in a plan delivery meeting.
• Get to know the firm by meeting one-on-one with team members across departments to learn about their roles, career paths, and the business.
• Manage a simulated investment portfolio, keeping a research-backed investment journal throughout the summer.
• Complete a competitive analysis of the market and deliver a capstone presentation to company leadership on what sets Shepherd Financial apart.
• Set development goals and reflect on your growth throughout the program with regular feedback and support

What We Look For

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance with a specific interest in financial services and/or wealth management or retirement planning
• Anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or Summer 2028
• Excellent active listening skills
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrates a high level of professionalism and a positive attitude with clients and internal team members
• Curious, engaged, and proactive; someone who comes prepared, asks questions, and follows through
• Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Teams, PowerPoint, and Excel)
• Prior experience working in an office setting is preferred
• Prior internship and/or relevant financial experience preferred

Compensation

This internship pays $20/hour.
