Substitute Meal Driver

Position Summary

The Substitute Meal Driver is an on-call, as-needed position responsible for supporting meal delivery operations during staff absences or periods of increased program need. The Substitute Meal Driver will ensure the timely, safe, and accurate delivery of meals to senior service sites throughout the Two Bridges and Lower East Side communities, while maintaining agency vehicles in safe and operational condition.

Responsibilities

Meal Delivery

• Assist with the packing and preparation of congregate meals for delivery.
• Pick up meals, record food temperatures, and deliver meals to designated satellite senior service sites.

• Assist with meal service operations, including setup, temperature monitoring (twice daily), meal distribution, and cleanup as needed.
• Maintain accurate meal delivery, food temperature, and distribution records.
• Assist in coordinating delivery routes to maximize efficiency and minimize travel time between locations.
• Operate agency vehicles safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and agency policies at all times.

Vehicle Maintenance

• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and immediately report any operational, mechanical, or safety concerns.
• Ensure current vehicle registration, insurance identification cards, and other required documentation are maintained in the vehicle at all times.
• Monitor and maintain vehicle fluid levels, tire pressure, windshield wipers, and fuel levels, ensuring the fuel tank remains above one-quarter full.
• Coordinate routine vehicle maintenance, including oil changes, inspections, and other service appointments as needed.
• Maintain the vehicle in a clean, safe, and professional condition at all times.
• Arrange for vehicle washing one to two times per month, or as needed.
• Maintain accurate weekly fuel and mileage records.
• Keep detailed vehicle maintenance and repair logs.
• Pick up and return the vehicle to the designated garage location on each workday.

Additional Responsibilities

• Remain available for assignments on an as-needed basis to provide coverage for scheduled and unscheduled staff absences.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license (Class D) and satisfactory driving record required. 
• Ability to safely operate and maintain a delivery vehicle. 
• Ability to lift, carry, and transport meal containers and supplies as needed. 
• Strong reliability, punctuality, and customer service skills.
• Food Safety Certification required, or willingness to complete the required training and obtain certification upon hire.

Compensation:  $26 per hour

Work Schedule: On call Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., for a total of 20 hours per week.
