Student Nurse Extern Program

Position Summary

The Student Nurse Extern performs specific responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a BSN prepared nurse.  Functions within the framework of the NAII listing granted by the NC Board of Nursing.  Practices within the philosophy and goals of patient care services.

Minimum Requirements

High School or higher plus 1-2 years of formal training/education is required.

NA I and NAI II certification is required prior to the program start date.

AHA BLS is required.

Successful completion of the first year in an accredited nursing school is required.

Recommendation by a clinical faculty member

To complete the Nurse Extern I application, applicants must submit the following:

Unofficial college transcript

Personal essay (minimum 250 words) describing why you would like to participate in the Nurse Extern Program and what you hope to contribute to patient care during the experience

Three letters of recommendation: 
One clinical facility reference
One academic reference
One personal or professional reference
