Job Description
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:
The Central California Asthma Collaborative (CCAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing health equity and environmental justice by empowering Central California communities through services, research, advocacy, and data-driven solutions to reduce the burden of asthma.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student Intern, under the direction of the CCAC preceptor, is responsible for supporting process improvements, daily operations, and innovative projects within the organization. This internship provides exposure to various aspects of how CCAC operates, including but not limited to public health practice, health promotion, environmental health, environmental justice initiatives, community engagement, data collection and analysis, reporting activities, administrative processes, and cross-functional collaboration. Duties and projects may vary depending on organizational needs, as well as the intern's skills, interests, and learning objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist day-to-day operations and team projects.
- Collaborate with team members on assigned projects.
- Support staff with research, data collection, and organization.
- Learn and apply industry tools, systems, or processes.
- Communicate updates clearly with supervisors and team members.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in public health, environmental studies, data science, computer science, communications, social sciences, or a related field, or a recent graduate.
- Experience with public health, environmental health, community engagement, data analysis, research, outreach, communications, or related areas through coursework, volunteer work, internships, research projects, employment, or other academic or professional experiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Canva, Adobe, and statistical software (R, SAS, Python) for creating materials.

DRIVING AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid CADL and applicable CA mandated auto insurance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lift up to 20 (twenty) pounds.
ACCESS TO SENSITIVE INFORMATION: Must maintain confidentiality of personal client and staff information exposed to when working in files and preparing reports.
The mission of the Central California Asthma Collaborative (CCAC) is to develop a network of stakeholders who work in a regional capacity to improve the health and quality of life for San Joaquin Valley residents affected by asthma and other respiratory conditions.
Together we are working reduce the burden of asthma in the Central Valley. CCAC is also pursuing opportunities to increase Valley resources and establish long-term stability for the Collaborative and for individual county Asthma Coalitions by leading local fundraising efforts and pursuing regional grant funding.
CCAC is working on the development and implementation of multi-component child asthma education and intervention programs, with an emphasis on developing partnerships with schools and parent organizations in underserved communities throughout the San Joaquin Valley. CCAC is also fostering and promoting the collection and dissemination of relevant asthma-related resources to CCAC-affiliated organizations and the public at large.
CCAC continues its efforts in developing culturally appropriate health delivery tools and educational programs with an emphasis on the relationship between asthma and Valley air quality. CCAC tracks current asthma research to further the awareness and prevention of respiratory health disparities in the San Joaquin Valley. CCAC participates in regional research opportunities, including projects designed to (a) identify environmental factors and interventions to address the high rates of childhood asthma morbidity in the Central San Joaquin Valley, (b) identify barriers and solutions to improve access to health services for under-insured residents. CCAC also facilitates the implementation of a database registry utilizing innovative technologies for the collection and exchange of health and environmental information to better inform physicians and improve the quality of care for asthma patients throughout the region.
