Student Assistant - Innovation Academy Prototyping Studio Technical Assistant

• This position is open to students who are eligible to work on campus, be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS), and maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
• Registered students are employed on a part-time basis
• Demonstrated experience with prototyping technologies.

Innovation Academy Technical Assistants support the day-to-day operation of the IA Prototyping Studio and help IA students safely and effectively use Studio equipment and prototyping technologies. Technical Assistants staff scheduled Studio hours, assist students with technical and fabrication questions, verify required training, oversee approved equipment workflows, maintain Studio records, and enforce Studio safety and access requirements. Current activities include 3D printing and related prototyping workflows, but equipment, software, and supported technologies may change as the Studio develops. Technical Assistants may also provide technical assistance for Innovation Academy courses, programs, workshops, and projects. This position does not include grading student coursework.

$16.00 per hour

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and a willingness and ability to learn new technologies.
• Ability to follow and consistently enforce established safety procedures and Studio rules.
• Confidence assisting students in one-on-one and group settings.
• Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
• Reliability, punctuality, and ability to commit to an established work schedule.
• Previous teaching, tutoring, TA, makerspace, or technical-support experience.
• Additional experience with 3D printing, CAD, electronics, programming, or fabrication.
• Successful completion of IDS 1940 Creativity and Design Thinking for Innovation.
• Enrollment in or completion of the Innovation Minor.

Required Portfolio Submission Contents:

Submit a small portfolio containing 2–3 examples of technical or prototyping work completed primarily or substantially by you. Examples may include:

• A 3D modeling/3D printing project, including an image and model file.
• An Arduino or electronics project, including an image or video and code.
• A laser-cutting or Adobe Illustrator project, including an image and original design file.
• Another project demonstrating relevant technical, fabrication, or problem-solving skills.
• Team projects are acceptable if your individual contribution is clearly identified.
